    Returned to ASB

    I've returned to ASB.

    1. I like the gameplay of ESPN, however, after a couple dozen games I found it to be repetitive graphics/animation wise.

    2. Uniinstalled MVP. The issue with not being able to control dynasty rosters was a killer. I tried a dynasty season, but after two months the CPU had screwed with some of the other teams lineups so much they looked like AAA teams.

I left ASB because I was playing on HOF and found that I was just getting way to many hits and was finding it easy to beat the CPU (Admittedly I played on TIMED HITTING).

So I sat down and tried CURSOR, put the pitching to slow and practiced. Now I'm playing on AS level with Classic Pitch speed and loving baseball again.

Coupled with all the tweaks that Knight and I came up with the game is going along great, even though I'm 13-13 as the Padres.

Going to trade in ESPN/MVP and MLB.

It took a couple months, but I got my baseball fix.

Now, ACCLAIM, fix some of the sloppiness in development next year!!!!

What kind of tweaks did you make by chance? I'm really trying to like this game but found out it's close games with cursor hitting or blowouts with zone or timed hitting. Thing is I SUCK at cursor hitting. strike out waaay too much and half the time I try to move my cursor to track the ball and then swing the cursor stops moving. Any tips you can give wil be a big help.

Jim - I'm not sure I've met anyone who switches between games as much as you have!!!

I hope you found your game for the year. I'm sticking with ESPN this year. I almost made the switch back to HH2004 (for Xbox), but decided to stick with ESPN and am glad I did. Maybe next year MS will pull the cobwebs off of the HH code and create something amazing. I doubt it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

                Joeboo,

I was beginning to worry about myself. Do you know how frustrating it is to use ESPNs button (running) scheme when playing ASB? I was pulling my hair out (what's left).

I also went back to HH2k4, for one game. I just played this game to death.

I'm having a great time with the game now. Promise, no more switching. It would be great if ESPN totally changes the graphics for the game next year. New player models and all. It's a real good game.

                      Blueduke,

What Knight and I did was edit players attributes. For instance we decreased the RANGE and ARM STRENGTH of the outfielders.

                      1. The outfielders seemed to get to every fly ball.

Increased the RUNNING SPEED of players. There were far too many balls hit off the walls for singles. Runners weren't tagging up.

                      There are a few others.

As far as cursor, I understand. I just sat down and practiced. I put the pitch aid ON and strike zone ON. I watch the pitchers delivery. I don't try to watch the ball out of his hand. The ball cursor shows up in enough time for me to move the stick.

I keep the batting cursor a little low of center (of the strikezone). This is good because 12 to 6 curve balls usually wind up low in the zone. It takes some patience to stay away from balls where the ball cursor indicates the pitch might be out of the strikezone.

I also use generated (RANDOM) pitch count whenever I play.
That helps greatly with walks. Try playing a few practice games (hitting practice with that cage in the way is useless). When it switches sides, switch to the team that is batting and just practice hitting.

Also, I reduced the speed of the pitch to SLOW. Now I'm playing on CLASSIC FAST and it's just about right.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

I too have jumped around this years crop of baseball games...but I always come back to ASB. I would suggest that if you feel that some things in the game are bugging you too much...before you just give up, do what Jim and myself have done and edit your teams attributes slightly first, and then as each series comes up against a team...edit that teams attributes. It helps....immensely.

Acclaim did a very nice job on improving ASB2005 from ASB2004 and if they just concentrate on "tightening" things up for 2006 they will have an absolute gem.
