    Re: Returned to ASB

    Ragnar;
    About the health and effectivness....I don't worry about the health rating so much...but for the effectiveness rating, if you just change the weight of the player the effectiveness(and sometimes health rating) changes...however, it is a major pain in the butt switching back and forth between screens to check out the changes. In most cases, I just live with whatever it turns out to be. I don't see THAT much of a difference.

    Reds;
    Like Jim said...it's not that much work, if you do it a series at a time, starting with your team first. What I do is edit say the Braves...and then Baltimore as the AL counterpart(I use the Mets...so I gotta get all the AL teams in there somehow.

    About the sliders, I agree that not having to have them would be great, but let's face it...if you have more flexibility to change the game to your style of play...for the greatest amount of people, you will be making everyone a lot happier. If you don't want to change anything...you don't have to!

    Truckie;
    I thought so. I myself am with Hook and Ladder Company 165 F.D.N.Y. The Sleepless Knights.Nice to have another truckie on the boards. Do you guys see the Engine Co.'s as your little sisters also?
    Stay safe.

      Re: Returned to ASB

      Redsfan,

      Yes I post over there. Also, I haven't seen any effect regarding the health issue. As a matter of fact I stopped worrying about the pitchers health meter much. I've used pitchers, with a lead, that have empty health meters, for a couple innings. I just use their effectiveness as an indicator if I want to get somebody up. Heck, I had Adam Eaton get bombed after two innings with an almost full health meter and I've had other pitchers pitching OK into the 7th, 8th inning with no health left at all.

      I agree with Knight, just ignore it.

            The good thing about playing all the games is that you are prepared to make an educated decision. The bad thing is that you know what you are missing. ASB was my choice this year, and despite some frustrating aspects, I wouldn't be able to live without ASB's stadiums, atmosphere and generated counts. Had I played MVP extensively, I suppose I would miss the pitching system. I definately miss the batting and fielding from WSB 2k3.

                  You are so right. Each game has things that make you say...wow...this is great. But in the end...I was very disappointed by the franchise problems in MVP. I won't go into it here(mainly because it has been stated over and over)...but it was too much for me to overlook. ESPN probably has the best hitting and pitching of all the games...but it's just so bland.Add to that, the fact that I really love to play manage only, plus the great commentary...terrific stadiums(and sheer number of them AND the fact that you can play any game in any stadium!) and many other little nuances and I just kept throwing ASB in the tray more and more. Certainly not perfect...but I really think Acclaim listens to it's customers...and hopefully they will take our voiced concerns and work on these things for the next installment.
                  Good gaming!

                        When i was playing mvp i was changing the sliders way too much. Everytime i would score 10 runs i would make the sliders easier to hit. Then i wouldnt be able to score a run! Anyway my point is a really cant stand sliders in video games, i wish they would just make more games playable out of the box.

                        <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

                        I can see your point. I have spent much more time messing with sliders than I would have liked with several sports titles over the last year.

                        However, I am a still a big fan of sliders if they are designed correctly. There is nothing worse than being stuck in skill level purgatory. Finding a challenging and realistic level in a sports game is often a fine line that cannot be captured in 3 or 4 levels. Sliders can bridge the gap. Since we all come to the table with different skills, I don't think you can make the game playable for everyone out of the box.

                        Customization is another advantage with sliders. Hard core sim players and those with a slight arcade slant can be happy with the same game.

                        I think that there are a few keys to good sliders:
                        1. They have to have a significant effect (ESPN NHL, I am looking at you).
                        2. More is not always merrier. Too many sliders with overlapping impact can create a mess with infinite permutations and aggrevation. ESPN NHL again steps up as the poster boy for bad sliders by demonstrating this.
                        3. Users have to be patient and try to forget about sliders. I have been guilty of having a good game or two and subsequently worrying about bumping up this slider or that. However, after 10 games, it is nice to be able to adjust a gameplay aspect that is skewed.

                        That is alot of rambling. Basically, I think that a handful of effective sliders would make ASB a much more enjoyalbe game for more people.
