    Thinking about trying this game?

I am bored with ESPN. It is a good game, but I can't even get through a whole game.

How are walks in ASB. Comp and Player.

I have heard that when using generated counts, your pitcher will throw like 150 pitches in 70 games. This is not realistic at all obviously, how does it affect your pitchers late in the year if they are throwing that many pitches early in the year?

I am a huge fan of generated counts. They speed up play, and contribute to walks. There are a few threads on generated counts out there that you may want to search on, but I'll give you my take.

    There are several options:
Random counts - Totally random with each at bat. They can be a bit unrealistic as control pitchers in the first inning have the same chance as getting a 3-0 count as a poor pithcer exhausted in the 9th. My biggest objection to this mode is that the luck of the draw has too big of an impact on the outcome.

Smart counts - Good in theory as pitcher/batter/fatigue all figure into the equation. However in my experience, it is too extreme. If the game likes the pitcher, he will constantly see 0-2 and 1-2 counts. If the game does not like the pitcher, it is constant 3-0, 2-0 counts.

The ideal would be something between random and smart, but that does not exist in 2005.

You also can set any specific count. I use 2-1 counts. They speed up play, but give a little breathing room for the pitcher to throw some junk. It also gives the offense a chance to steal or bunt. I also get and give a good number of walks as 2 bad pitches are easier to come by than 4 in a video game.

Pitch counts do get high, so that may bother you. It is not uncommon for a pitcher to still be getting outs after 140 pitches. But while the pitch counts are high, I have gotten realistic results as my pitchers usually go 6-7 innings. Complete games happen, but are not very common. I do not know if the pitchers fatigue as the season goes on though????
