rj - Well for me ESPN is the way to go. I wasn't fond of last years WSB, but something about this years ESPN has me hooked. It plays a very good game of baseball. CPU steals, hit and runs, brings in LH pitchers to face tough LH batters etc... However, one glitch I've seen is that the CPU can not sacrifice bunt. It will bunt for a basehit, but can't sacrifice.
I can't comment on player progression since I'm still in my first season. Guys do get tired throughout the season though and are more likely to get injured if you play them while they're tired. One thing about ESPN is that it's not a game that you'll be able to play real well right away. You have to give it time (10-15) games. Pitching is difficult and once you get the hang of it, the game's a blast.
I'm a sucker for buying the newest game every year. IMO HH is still the king though. I'm not sure there ever will be another game even close to HH. However, ESPN is the closest thing for me this year.
