    LONG TERM CONTRACTS

I AM USING THE BASIC LEVEL OF FRANCHISE MODE AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE SIGNING FREE AGENTS OR LONG TERM CONTRACTS. I AM PLAYING USING THE CUBS AND WOULD LIKE TO SIGN A FEW OF THE PLAYERS TO LONG TERM CONTRACTS. WHE THE SEASON STARTED I HAD VERY LIMITED FUNDS AVAILABLE. EVERY TIME I TRY TO SIGN A FREE AGENT I GET THE MESSAGE "THE CUBS DO NOT HAVE ROOM IN THEIR BUDGET TO SIGN THIS PLAYER" OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I HAVE EVEN TRIED TO RELEASE SOME MINOR LEAGUERS TO FREE UP SOME POINTS SO I CAN SIGN A FREE AGENT, AND IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK DOING THAT. ALSO I HAVE NO POINTS TO SIGN CURRENT PLAYERS TO A LONG TERM DEAL. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE TRANSACTIONS THAT ALL OTHER TEAMS ARE SIGNING THEIR PREMIER PLAYERS TO LONG TERM DEALS. WHERE ARE THEY GETTING THESE POINTS TO DO THIS. WILL I RECEIVE MORE POINTS AT THE END OF THE YEAR OR CAN I EXPECT ALL MY GOOD PLAYERS TO WALK?

Okay...first..please hit your shift key...it seems to be stuck.

Now, playing with realistic budgets as the Cubs is going to start you out with only 37 points to sign FA's and resign players. You have to think along the lines that the owner does not want to spend ANYMORE than that and make your moves along those lines. That's the point...to give you a challenge. However, if you really must be able to sign every FA you want and can't stand the fact of losing Paul Bako to free agency...start another Cub's franchise and this time assign your self a LARGE BUDGET on the screen where you choose your team and such. Otherwise, it's time to make some good trades and find some bargains.
    Hope this helps.

          Also, please note:

In ASB 04 (I can't believe that ASB 05 is any different) your team budget will go up or down depending on how good or bad your team does. If you, say, win the World Series, your team budget should go up a few points.

Also, when you sign a long-term contract, remember that you only need the difference between the contracts available. Example: Aramis Ramirez currently has a 1 year, 28 point contract left. If you want to sign him long-term, and he wants a 6 year, 32 point contract, you should only need 4 points available to resign him.

Please note that this is on ASB `04 and not `05. Although, I have a hard time believing they would change the financial system that much from last years to this years.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a ttoal jmulbe and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
