First of all, for those who dont know, UBO is a MMOSG (Massive Multiplayer Online Sports Game) and the very first of its kind. You can create a player and be apart of a team of 8 diffrent individuals and play a full game of baseball. Its a totally new concept and its absolutely fun.

Alright, here are some of my impressions after playing 3 full games.
Well, the games themsleves were set at 3 innings so I'm guessing you can set it to any number of odd innings when you create a room. I played 3 games last night with the highest number of players on each team being 7 ppl. But I'm sure you can find some 9 on 9 games if you're on at the right time. I was on there playing from 12pm cetral to 2 oclock so it looks to be picking up new players by the day.
GAMEPLAY
Let me tell you how immersive it is to be apart of a living and breating team of 8 other ppl all playing a organized game of baseball.
-BATTING
When batting, the view is presented to just like any other baseball game. From the catchers view. You have a target circle in which you have to aim for the ball ala WSB. You press the left click to swing and you have to time it. It seems that the timing of your swing results in realistic physic as I fouled off my first 5 or so hits when playing batting practice. You also can add more or less power to you swing. You hold the right clicker and drag a meter down or up before the pitch. Send the meter to the far right and the target becomes smaller. Send it more to the left and the target circle becomes bigger. Basically more contact vs more power. Send it all the way to the left and you can bunt the ball. It may sound confusing but it really is'nt. After one quick session of batting practice you'll be ready to hit some high heat.
FIELDING
Fielding is somewhat complicated UNLESS you read the manual that comes along with the DL. You can also view a tuturial before you install the game. But if you dont you'll have trouble right of the bat. No pun intended. When fielding, you have to left click when the ball is near you in order to catch it. If you dont, the ball will just roll right pass you. I've actually been wating for a game that forces you to press a botton to catch. Once you have the ball in your glove, in order to throw, you can either aim with your mouse to the person you want to throw it to or press the #1-4. (1=1B, 2=2nd, etc.) After you press a number or aim with the mouse, you must hold the left click until a meter fills up ala MVP. And let me tell you, starting off as a newbie or rookie means that your meter rises super slow and you have a noodle arm. But thats where the beauty of the game lies. Once you build your attribute up, you'll beome a regular Sammy Sosa on the field.
AATRIBUTES
Since we're on the subject. The game utilizes an RPG style engine. In which you have to successfully do things on the field in order to gain experience.(EXP) A baseball game where tou have to earn EXP, oh joy!! That means in order to recieve experience, you must catch balls successfully, get hits, make good throws, and so on and so on. And you can defitnitly tell the diffrence between a newb and a guy whos been playing for a while. His arm strenght is better provided lighting quick throws. His meter for throwing fills up faster. He can move faster, hit better and is just all around better than everyone else. Its not a ton of attributes in the game but enough to give each player a feeling of being part of a organization where no one is the same.
This leads to how you stratergize on and off the field. You can currently join a team now. And you can even play as just a manager. Now, picture managing a group of ppl forreal! Not that fake MVP "I'm not getting enough playing time" message but you'll be working with real ppl with real wants and needs. PPl who want to boost there stats like real major leaugers, players who want to just play and have fun, players who want to win and the list goes on. Now how great does that sound?
I saw about 15 teams currently available to join and you can be apart of a league with full stat tracking capabilities. Standing and all. Not sure about trading and all that but of course, the game is'nt 100% complete so everything is'nt in full and working order. Its also dozens of features that will be apart of the full game like Stamina and injuries.
Sound fun, well hell it is. So you can DL and register and be online with 17 other ppl right now.
Now, now, dont think I would leave yall without telling you about any negatives. Like I said its just in its final beta stages so of course you have bugs. Here are some right off the top of my head.
--When a player on your team quits, the man just disappears from the field. And there is no cpu AI that'll replace him. Say for instance, you play CF and your RF and LF suddenly quit or lose connection, you go it, you'll be in the OF all by your lonely. But hey, if you were playing a game of baseball in real life, if 2 ppl suddenly quit, there is'nt any magical substitutions you can call off the bench, you must play without them so IMO, this flaw is'nt that bad. They will be a patch in the future where you can sub a player with a CPU AI player.
--You cannot join a game that has already started up. A patch for this is also said to be in the works but you can spectate any game you see. If you're just starting out you can watch a game play out to get a general idea of how the game works.
--seems to be a bug when you're tryna pick a ball up while running. The bal may go through you at times.
--Lag sometimes causes you to swing at a pitch to early because you were'nt in sync with the pitch.
BEST POSITIVE IN THE WORLD
--Playing with a team of ppl who all know and understand the game of baseball and reliving your childhood moments when you were with you buddies in the sandlot or local park. Nothing beats that feeling....NOTHING.
What are you waiting for, go join. I'll be on immediately after I get home from work.
