ASB...I know its too late for this, but.........

I'm having a blast playing All Star Baseball 2005 in a new way. I'm one of those old manage only guys, who just now in November has decided to dust off the game and try and find an alternative to manage only. I found it. Playing on Legends, with automatic fielding, with hitting on zone is the ticket for me. While the spring training games have sometimes been high scoring, alot depends on who is pitching against you. (no kidding) I've played 17 spring training games as the Cardinals and have had a blast so far. Surprises are Colin Porter who is going to not only make the team, but will probably start in left field. Chris Widger, whom the real Cardinals disgarded last spring, is hitting the ball very well too.

The hitting system called zone, while not perfect ,allows an old fool like me to play the game based mainly on timing. The fastest level of pitching, and playing with the "smart" generated count, is also essential to making this style of play more realistic. I'm still having several strikeouts, but not a totally unreal amount, and the walks are seen occasionally, especially if I could learn to be more patient. I'm also walking a few, as sometimes you start with a 3 ball count, and can't just groove the ball.

I realize that most of you have given up playing the ASB series, but for the few who might be "jonesing" for a little off season baseball, this new style has me excited about getting into "my" regular season. Just hope that if I get to the World Series, I can keep the broom in the other teams closet.

I'm probably going to have to purchase another game, as I think I'm having some issues with scratches. Not too bad yet, just an occasional freeze, but I'm having enough fun with it, that I wouldn't think twice about purchasing another. The 2005 game was a noble swan song for Acclaims baseball series, and I was looking forward to continued improvements in the years ahead, but such is life.

I know nobody will probably read this, but if Knight, or some of the other manage only guys would like to give this a try, they might be as surprised as I was.

Actually Rumorman...with me being an "old guy" like you....I also have a franchise going with me hitting and ASSISTED fielding. I only take control of the throws....because I hate it when the outfielder tries to get a guy at the plate and let's the other runners advance.
It's funny, but I play this game more now than I did during baseball season. I'm just past the ALL-STAR break in my manage only franchise.Playing as the Mets, I've been trying desperately to get a decent first baseman and another pitcher. With Benson wanting a 4 year 25 (mil/point) a year contract....I can't afford him and sign my bench players. I have to decide on wether to keep Benson and hope to sign FA bench players....or get a few guys locked up now and hopefully pick up a good FA pitcher.
One thing I wished that ACCLAIM would have done with ASB2005 is modify the FA process. I can live with it...but it definetly could have been handled better.

Knight165, I always am more into playing in the offseason. I don't really know why, except that I get too mad at the real players when they are struggling ,and can't seperate the reality from the video game. Or something like that. Zone hitting would be great if I wasn't hitting so many homers. (12 in 5 games, but mostly against Brewer pitching, so you never know) Have had some good games, but have a 5-0 record, and I'll probably loose interest if I'm "unable" to lose a few games. Are you using zone hitting or is there something else an old guy should try? Thanks for the reply, and I enjoy your posts.

Rock on . I actually grew up with Colin Porter. Played little league up through high school ball with him until I moved away. Stopped and talked to him once while he was playing at the University of Arizona. Great guy, I really hope he finds a permanent spot on a team next year.
