If you still have a PS3 then starting with an older (and cheap) version of PYS like 2010 would be a good place to start. Both games play similar but the new Power Pro has so many modes it may seem overwhelming. If you only have a PS4 no problem you can still jump in - but just understand the only stuff you'll be doing is Pennant (season mode) or Exhibition. All the other modes has so much text it's hard to translate.

Both games have really good practice modes so you can start there. Then go into the system menu to lock in your permanent game settings. Play some exhibitions and "Field Play" (which is where you play with only one player the whole game on offense & defense.)

When you get comfortable you can start up a season...both of these games have top notch player progression. You might start the season out great with an older veteran team but eventually they start getting tired and show up with poor condition or injuries and declining attributes. So you'll be forced to get young players in the mix and get them experience & training. How much you like the gameplay will determine if you're willing to put in the effort to figure everything out. Just playing exhibitions or manager mode is easy.

Play-Asia is a great place to order from. I've only ever had 1 issue and it was due to my bank. Shipping depends on what option you choose. I always do expedited so this year it took 4 or 5 days. One year I got my shipment overnight.
The game cones with a DLC code so you'll need a Japanese psn to use it.

I spent some time reading the Amazon Japan reviews for the PS4 version. Here is a quick summary:

          - Success mode too hard, impossible to finish.
          - New fatigue system is a plus (middle players like catchers tire faster)
          - Improved player "Motion" (animations)
          - Improved Player "Individuality" (new special skills)
          - Something new with player potential & attributes. Some apparently are now hidden so you won't know what to expect (this may only apply to international players.)

Most negative comments were for modes that we can't play. Didn't hear anything bad about overall gameplay or Pennant. It's hard to understand some of these translated reviews.

I'm just very curious... how much more time/cost would it take for them to get English translations in this game? Surely they won't like double their customer base or anything, but many people hold back simply because of the language barrier. I have PYS 2013 but couldn't deal with the barrier enough to keep it going.

I'm not saying it's super easy, but would the thought of them doing translations be that difficult? They can probably carry most of it over from year to year, as well.

Maybe I'm being an ignorant American in this case, I'm not sure.

I've been messing around with the Festival mode which takes place on a cruise ship and there is tons of dialogue before games. I don't think we'll ever get a translated version

I highly recommend paying extra for the expedited shipping if you purchase through PlayAsia. I tried the economy shipping once and it took over a month for the game to get to me and there was no tracking so I wasn't sure if my game was lost or not. In contrast, I just ordered PP 2018 on Saturday, and with expedited shipping, my game should be here by Wednesday.

It's been done before with MLB Power Pro's in 2007 & 2008. It was the top selling game in Japan but it bombed in the U.S. Although it was considered one of the best sports games on the Wii the 2007 version only sold 20K copies.

Even though there was also a PS2 version it didn't do much better the next year (developed by Konami and published by 2K.) The PYS version probably never made it because 2K was busy making "The Bigs" and "MLB 2K". Both of those sold way more than Power Pro's so they scrapped it.

Translating a game with only the Japan league would be dead in the water, it would have to have MLB players. Sort of like nobody buying APF2K8 football with half-fictional players, even though it was a great game. Looking back, 2K should've used the PYS engine. Who knows, maybe they tried but being a publisher instead of creator perhaps the profit margin is too small?

Add me to the list of people wishing this would get translated and brought to the states. I wouldn't even mind if they didn't bother getting an MLB license either. Just translate and publish digitally for a competitive price. Link it to other games like SMB2 or even Yakuza. Power Pros was soooooooo good.

Never said it had to be sold in the U.S. I was just wondering if I was completely misguided by thinking that if they got a guy to get an option for English text in the game, that it wouldn't really cost that much more to do and they might get more sales as a result.

And yes, I own and love MLB Power Pros. I do wish they had another MLB version of this game for sure.

If I ever got invited to a Konami "community day" with the devs that would be my first suggestion. But for the most part they are closed off to the people playing their games.

In regards to cost to translate it would just be a guess. Even if it's sold only in Japan I doubt the sales would compensate for the resources involved. The only thing that might work is putting in a WBC mode (with MLB players) and translating only key elements. The 2010 main menu has English text, so someone in Konami may have been trying to lean things in that direction.

Got the game in the mail yesterday. Here are a few impressions after 5 or so games:

-The game has HDR support on PS4. Looks amazing. Colors really pop.

-I think the rain and fog effects in this game look better than the Show

-Caught foul tip strike outs are in the game now

-More realistic amount of fielding errors

-More on field injuries (I don't think I saw even one in 2016. All injuries occurred after completed games.)

-With all the gameplay additions and new fatigue system this game is feeling more sim like PYS

Yes, PS 4 is region free. I bought from Play Asia and just received the game yesterday. A real gem!
