Re: does asb 05 have manage only mode?

Oh...you are going to see hits down the line...plenty. Sometimes with the slowest guys.....they STILL don't make it to second....they just hang there at firstbase. It's when you see a mid range guy like Vance Wilson(I think he's rated C- in speed) take the extra base that you will realize that the speed ratings are off as well as range and arm. I don't know what Acclaim was thinking. Perhaps they were in a rush to get it on the market and figured that they would fix it in the first roster update?

    Jim...
Maybe we should map out a guideline for the changes. This way manage only players can still have something to play if the new batch of games does not have a good manage only mode.

OK, I'll shoot you my tweaks today and you can compare and we can meet in the middle someplace. Actually they're almost all the same.

        Later, Jim

Re: does asb 05 have manage only mode?

You guys keep posting and we old (or young) manage only guys will keep listening. I've been hesitant to edit all the players , until very recently and when I did , I also edited the infielders the same as the outfielders. (I didn't pay close enough attention) However, it seems to not make any difference in the long haul. A good third baseman ,like Scott Rolen will still make a diving play to his right and have enough arm to throw the guy out at first. Keep up the good work, and I am thinking of just staying with ASB 2005. I've tried the play it modes ,and will occasionally enjoy myself, even bought espn's game recently, and found myself simply unhappy with the consistancy of my play, as far as getting realistic results . Those realistic results matter to me, and I suspect jim and knight as well , even moreso than the "gameplay"

I have even considered getting a spare ASB game ,before they get too hard to find.

Right now ,I am pretty happy with 3 games, and since 2 of them are now extinct ( ASB and ESPN nfl) I will probably just continue on with MY franchises, and play them till whenever I get too "old". Espn College hoops is the other game with coach mode that I'm playing ,and it's a blast .

Now I'm editing all fielders as follows:

            Speed: +1 letter grade
            Range -1 letter grade
            Arm strenth -2 letter grades
            Arm accuracy -1 letter grade

            All Hitters (even pitchers)

            patience +1 letter grade

            All pitchers:

Control -1 and another bump down (4 clicks down)
Stamina +1 and a click (4 clicks up)

Thanks for the updates on the games, and jim or knight, please comment if you will , about the infield edits. Do you think they will distract that much from the overall experience?

For anyone else interested. There is a rather lengthy Manage only thread buried somewhere in this forum, that had a ton of info and edit debate back when the game was young. The usual suspects participated in it, and it might be worth looking up.

I went and got another copy. Just in case.....I already had my original copy crap out on me from using it so much. I had to have it "reconditioned" for 3 bucks.

I never thought of doing the infielders. They always seemed okay to me....but now that I think of it...maybe they get to TOO much. One thing I noticed after editing the outfielders is that they get to less of the foul balls. I think that's a good thing. Too many pop outs the other way. I'm gonna give the infielders a little test.

Another thing is if you feel like the speed edits are causing too many SB's(I don't) then one thing you can edit is the pickoff move. Not only does it effect how many times they will pick someone off, but I think it also keeps them closer on leads.

One thing I would like to point out about Rumormans edits....and he's right on the mark with it....is the arm strength and arm accuracy.....THAT might be the most important edit in the game. Outfielders are just too good on all accounts out of the box. The combination of the range, arm strength and arm accuracy edits bring everything to a much more realistic level.

Thanks for keeping this game and the manage only mode alive!

                    Rumorman,

I never touched the infielders. They seemed to be find the way they were. The most important thing, to me was, the outfielders range, arm strength and pitchers stamina.

Mike, I just got done painting my daughters bathroom (have been redoing the entire inside of my house), so it's break time and I'll send you my tweaks. Rumorman, I"ll send them to you too and you can also get in on this.

Great idea about buying a spare copy of ASB. I know I bought an extra copy of HH2k4 and it's put away, I will do the same with this game.

I was finishing my player edits last night (almost done the AL) and took time to play a season exhibition game. They make all the difference in the world. Great game experience, for me anyhow.

Just to clarify, these are the edits I (maybe misunderstood) from you guys. The infielder thing was done because I thought that was the way you were doing it. In fact it does seem to work okay.

jim, yeah , I would appreciate any tweaks you come up with. Thanks in advance.

I never had HH2k4, but thought about picking one up at a blockbuster. It doesn't have manage only though, right?

No manage only for hh2k4, but if you just want to pitch and not bat, it's adjustable. If you want to bat and not hit, same. I just love the game as there are a ton of hi -res stadiums, uniforms, player photos, player faces, etc., etc., plus Pudge just came out with a generated pitch count for the game that I REALLY like.

I'm sending you both tweaks and we'll come up with a happy medium and maybe it can be a sticky for the ASB forum.
