The simmed games are NOT negatively effected. The offense if boosted slightly, but that's a good thing.
You can use these edits whether you play the games or not. I only play MOM, but I know other guys who actually play the games and use the edits.

yea i toyed with the edits and it does make a much better game. I'm probably going to go through and edit all the defensive stats. Was wondering if those edits are for all players or just outfielders. Maybe with less range for those corner infielders, there will be more hits down the line? I'm still a little skeptical about the speed increases as I tried these out with the Rangers and hahaha Palmeiro attempted 2 stolen bases getting caught both times when he was still 7-8 steps away from the base.

Also, I haven't tried any of the pitching edits, mostly because after you edit a pitcher their effectiveness rating changes which kinda sucks. I might try these out though just to see the difference. On another note, with the control edits, is it just for your team or for every team and won't it eventually affect how many walks pitchers give up in the simmed games? Sorry, I'm just looking for a fun game to play and kind of real stats. Thanks

Re: does asb 05 have manage only mode?

Don't worry about asking questions. I'm happy to answer if I know it.
When I first started editing the pitchers...I too worried about the effectiveness, until I finally came to the conclusion that the pitchers were too good anyway, so I edited every pitcher on every team and my results are just fine. I sometimes have my(and opposing) pitchers with all red(supposedly bad) pitches and they still mow down the hitters.

I edit just the outfielders range and arm ratings.Don't be shy with the edits. Outfielders are rated way too high on both of these attributes.

About the speed....this is where jim and I differ a little. I adjust the speed of just the absolute slowest players by 1 full letter and I tinker with the others only a half. I won't make a C+ runner a B-....I leave him as is. I will however make a D runner a C- or C(if it's a catcher I usually make him a C-)

Don't forget to edit the pitcher speed and fielding rating. It helps with those slow rollers to the mound.

I'll post some of my mid season stats for you. I'm just past the All-Star break now.

          Good luck and enjoy!

ERA(this number is way too good in both leagues....along with K's so you see why I don't worry about editing pitchers down AND effecting their effectiveness)
              Carpenter 1.89

The American League is about the same except for Strikeouts which are lower and ERA's which are slightly higher, as you would expect.
The thing is...I just get the best "feel" of the game of baseball from All-Star BB. Add that to the fact that it's the only real manage only mode in town...and that's why I enjoy this game so much.

Re: does asb 05 have manage only mode?

Yes, the speed ratings are subjective. There are a TON of players with speed ratings of D. Way too many for me. I normally make everyone at least a C and leave the guys I know ARE slow at C- or even D+, like Bengie Molina, etc.

The outfielders ranges are WAY off. I was editing my roster the last couple of days to start a new season and guys like John Mabry have an A+ range rating. I think even Brian Buchanan had an A rating. So, unless he's an exceptional outfielder I brought everyone's range rating down to C, C+ and left the great guys great, same with the arm strength. The result, tag ups on fly balls and runners turning those long singles into doubles.

I tell you when I played the game out of the box and saw all those 385 foot singles, I knew I had to do something and along with Knight came up with some stuff that makes this game absolutely outstanding in my book. I agree with Knight, make those changes and I thing you'll enjoy the game greatly.

And Knight it right, it's worth the effort. It's a little time consuming, but when you get the hang of it you can do it quickly.

It has great graphics, great stadiums, great announcing and baseball feel.
I even got the baserunning down on CLASSIC running.

When I created players, about 60 of them I usually used the fake players and just edited them.

thanks for the info guys. Just one more question: Do you edit the ranges and arm strengths of all fielders/pitchers, or just the outfielders?

Most of the infielders ranges and speeds are o.k. You might just look at their SPEED and if you think it has the guy rated too low D, you might want to up it. Remember, those Ds turn doubles into singles and will leave a runner standing on 3rd on an otherwise easy tag up.

I changed the pitchers RANGE and feel it helps them get off the mound and throw out runners. You know the pitchers sometimes turn the wrong way and on a sure out the runner beats them out. For me, upping the pitchers ranges throws out some of these choppers down the line.

I guess Knight and I should come up with a formula for all these changes and post them. What about it M.K.?

Nice note on the pitcher's ranges.

While going through the defensive edits, the only grey area with the ranges for me are with the edits on corner infielders. I would say that maybe this will allow more hits down the line, but then again, I barely see any hits down the line so maybe it's unnecessary.
