SOOO, I GAVE ASB ANOTHER TRY....

howdy y'all! i haved posted here since MADDEN came out but i thought i'd share something with those who helped me with this game when it first came out.

as some of you may recall, when this game first came out, i wasn't too fond of it because of the batting & and the games were too long. well for the past week, i've been dying for a really baseball game because of the wild card races. so i finally bit the bullet and gave ASB 2003 a third try. HR Kings just wasn't doing it for me anymore.

i played SF vs. ATL. going into the game i constantly reminded myself of the flaws that drew me away form the game the prior 2 times. remembering how hard it was for me to hit the ball. well i took my time and accepting the fact i'm not going to hit every ball pitched to me. well, on veteran, i lose 5-3 but it was awesome! Bond and Kent each went 2-3 with BB hitting 2 dubs. my pitching was pretty impressive as well. Herenadez threw 7 k but walked Maddox 2 twice (don't ask)
the batting seem such easier, and no i wasn't using easy batting. i could time tihe swings alot easier and stay on the ball.

i can't believe it took me this lon gto realize how cool this game really is. WSB was good for me for about 3 days til it became very repetative.

anyways, just thought i'd share that with you all...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

Re: SOOO, I GAVE ASB ANOTHER TRY....

I've been playing each series in ASB as it comes up... of course, I was Atlanta, and with me at the helm rather than Bobby Cox, the outcome was alot different. The games, other than maybe 1 or 2 of them, have all been very close and seem to be more pitching dominated than hitting.

It was hard to get my timing back after playing High Heat for 2 weeks, so the first few games were embarassing. I'm holding my own now, though... except against Randy Johnson and that slider of his. I managed 2 hits, and felt really good about not having a no-no pitched against me.

The new version is sounding pretty sweet from that little blurb IGN posted a week or so ago. Can't wait.

ASB was a pretty good game, it was just s;low as he;ll for me, so I traded it in for NCAA, 2004 looks pretty good along the ;lines of features though.

Hey Guru, what did you end up thinking about High Heat? I didn't give it much of shot this year (just can't get past its graphics after playing so much of ASB.) I'd be curious to hear what you thought of it.

I have ASB2003 too and I enjoyed the game alot. I havent played in a while so i'll probably be 2-hit like BaseballGuru The addition of the Franchise mode was great but it can be improved greatly from last year's version. Acclaim, if someone is reading this, TAKE THE TIME OUT TO DEVELOP YOUR CREATE-A-PLAYER MODE.

            G,

I don't really hold High Heat in good regards... I'm a big fan of graphics and animation, and it just can't compete with the others. If graphics and animation didn't matter, I'd still be playing my Atari 2600. I dropped $300 on a system to be amazed, and High Heat only amazes me at how bad it looks.

The gameplay is fun, but I didn't find it to be all that deep. The pitches aren't very realistic, and there are things like 1 frame tag animations that result in some very, very bogus calls. Everything seems simplified to me... easy to run, easy to throw, easy to hit, etc... not a real challenge.

It does have some redeeming qualities, like the variety of hits that come off the bat, but things like multiple robbed homeruns in practically every game I played ruined it for me.

We'll see what new stuff they have in store for us next year, and I'm sure I'll pick it up again since it will likely be the first game on the shelves... but it probably won't stay in my collection long.

Thanks Guru. I'm hoping that ASB2004 comes out in Feb. again this year...not much time to wait at all, really.

Re: SOOO, I GAVE ASB ANOTHER TRY....

Wow....now you guys have given me something to really think about....
I had a blast playing ASB 2003...and was able to play all 162 of my team's games through the entire spring/summer and fall. Even finishing 17 games out at the end of the year and not being eliminated from wild card contention until around September 1 was a rush...(especially for a team with horrible pitching)
I heard positive things about WSB and though I'd try it next season. But the more I hear about people who have spent quality time with both WSB and ASB and preferring ASB, it makes me wonder.
I wish the player editor would improve with ASB2004. It's simply HORRID (to be kind) in ASB 2003. Trading players among non-user controlled teams can be tough to work with as well.
                Congratulations BUTLER BULL DOGS!
