    MLB2006 vs. MVP vs. 2K5

I think a lot of people are waiting to hear comparisons on the 3 games to make their decision on which to buy, so I thought it would be good to help them out by having a comparison thread.

I have all 3 games, and I gotta say I like them all. I have a few quick comparisons. This is nowhere near complete because I have only played MLB2006 for a couple of hours.

Best Commentary-- Hands down 2K5. It has the best commentary I have heard in any sports game. Next is MLB, then MVP.

Best Stadiums-- 2K5 has crisper, more vibrant stadiums than MLB, but MLB did a better job of getting the details right. MLB is the only game to have the bell in Ameriquest Field in Arlington. MVP's stadiums are a not very detailed, and clearly are the worst of the 3.

Best Animation-- MVP, MLB, 2K5. This is an area in which MVP excels.

Best Gameplay-- Hard to say this early in, but MVP is smooth. Fielding is a bit of a problem in 2K5, and MLB has a stutter after the ball is hit.

Most Authentic Gameplay-- From what I've seen, MLB. It feels the most like baseball.

Best Atmosphere-- I like 2k5's atmosphere the most, but MLB may overtake it after I have put more time in. MVP is lacking in atmosphere.

Best Fielding Cam-- MLB and MVP both have excellent high fielding cams. 2K5 has, I think, a very poor fielding cam. You can't see the ball fly out of the park when you hit homeruns.

I hope this thread helps those of you trying to decide. There are others here who I'm sure can add much more to help you with your decision on which game to purchase.

Re: MLB2006 vs. MVP vs. 2K5

I agree with some of what the above poster said with a couple exceptions and these are just preferences on my part.

I think MLB's animations are the best. I may be in the minority but if you throw in all the batter swing animations, plate routines, pitcher routines, motions, DP animations, different outfield catch animations due to new fielding mechanics, different types of hits, ball collision, etc, For me it's MLB. There is also real subtle things that you don't notice right away like players taking an extra step and planting before throwing as well as different throwing styles of inflieders from over the top, 3/4, and sidearm.

I also like MLB's announcing the best. The PBP guy almost never repeats himself and has different commentary for similar plays. Just a tremendous amount of variety. Soup is a little dry for some but I think it sounds very authentic.

I also like MLB's graphics the best. More detail with players and stadiums. Better player scaling as well.

Best gameplay for me is MLB. To me it has better pitching mechanism that isn't as precise as others, better hitting system that feels spot on, and better fielding system whereby player ratings determine how difficult it is to play in the field (a 1st for a baseball game).

    Just a couple of sidenotes.

MLB copied MVP's baserunning system and I'm so happy they did. It is really easy to get the hang of. I'm not a fan of 2K5's at all. Just not natural IMHO.

MLB just looks realistic on the field. When a ball is hit the ball physics just seem a lot more realistic to me than the other two games. 2K5 feels kind of spongy to me, and MVP just doesn't look right to me a lot of times especially in regards to grounders, shots in the gap, and peas down the line. MLB really mimics these types of hits well when it comes to physics, spin, curve, etc.

Finally when it comes to hitting.

When you nut one in MLB you feel like it was crushed and the ball just leaps off the bat. Hard to do but the different types of contact of the ball off the bat feel like they should.

MVP feels random to me a lot of times and sometimes when I hit a pea it doesn't give me the sensation that I've really nailed it. The same goes with catching one on the sweet part of the bat and seeing the ball barely come off the bat. Don't know exactly what it is but it just doesn't seem right to me.

2k5 does the worst job of recreating the bat on ball scenario IMHO. This is because you can routinely crush the ball only to see it lob to an infielder without any steam on it. I feel like an artificial force field is restraining the flight of the ball in this game and I think it has a lot to do with confidence but non the less for me it just doesn't get it right.

I agree with you completely on that ohiost. As much as I've really enjoyed MVP 2005 so far, MLB 2006 just looks much more realistic & has that true baseball feel. I tried Take-Two's 2K5 but didn't care for it at all. The gameplay & animations just don't stack up to the others.

Both MLB 2006 & MVP 2005 are two of the best baseball games ever released IMO. But If you only have time for one, then you should heavily lean towards 989's MLB 2006 (Gotta have a PS2 for that one though). It's really the greatest thing for baseball fanatics since High Heat....... only it's got the graphics to backup the gameplay .

Thank you guys for the comparisons and impressions. I really wanan give MLB 2006 a rent at least based off so many positive impressions. Yea, this thread may help anyone who is still on the fence.

I too appreciate the impressions. I was waiting to see what others thought of MLB 2006, but it sounds like it's at least worth checking out. Between the MLB forum and this thread you guys have officially knocked me off the fence.

Sounds like MLB is having a big freezing problem and some others as well. Better check into it before you jump on the bandwagon.
Some guy went out and bought a new ps2.....etc and spent over $200 and he's highly upset!

                        Yeah,

I saw the freeze problem last nite. I've had this problem with so many PS2 titles that I've lost count. I think a lot of it has to do with the PS2 being slapped together with mud and thatch.

well.guy ive already bought MLB2006 , and i just have a doubt , its strange that the reviews by the specialized websites are so bad...i think 989 isnt sponsoring anyone..maybe thats why...anyoway i trust more gamers(like you guys) than those reviewers who are influential by MONEY (and all gamers revieews are great so far)I havent seen one person saying the game is bad...diferent frmo mvp or mlb2k5 wich has a lot of hatters.

btw..right now , while my game doesnt arrive(i live in BRAZIL) so it takes a while, i am having much fun with mlb2k5(beside its bugs) the game is great beside bugs, and fielding..but it has the most important thing to me: the batter vs pichter core...wich is great in this game..but by seen some videos i think my choice will follow you guys and i will surrender to mlb2006...i bought the mlb2005 but didnt like it..there was no ball contact..

btw, i also played mvp2005 and i kind of liked, but its just the same game as 2004 wich i got tired long time ago
