    The Great Video Baseball Debate

Welcome to intelligent video baseball debate. This thread is to discuss the differences in this yrs baseball titles. Flaming personal attacks and immaturity of any kind is not tolerated and will be ignored...all else debate!

here is my last post from the other thread

What does it matter? Bad, you were pi**ing all over this game the other day, now you are defending it like a developer. Stats a simulation do not make. Sound AI, a good p/b interface, realistic fieding, that IMO is what makes a good sim.

this is where you are wrong! Stats is where it starts....you dont even bother to get involved with the pithcer batter intereface, AI etc...unless the stats are believable.

The ichiro statrs are the prime reason mvp is not a sim.
Actually i find that suprising though as i thought that hitters number were on...the biggest stat issue i had with mvp was that every starter with 200 inn walked like 80 batters....100 innings like 40 batters....didnt matter if you were joe shmoe or cy freakin young!
But i did not crucify the game for this i was willing to accept the stats as almost everything else was good with the exception of the big strikeout guys.
where it really got me mad was the walks. which with spitoons mod got bette but the ai battrers still didnt handle faking the act of hitting to what is believably real to me. although the stats come out decent enough there is something fake and canned about each at bat. then when your at the plate the fairyland batting system gets me! and then the AI doesnt play ball with you...actually it does, what it doesnt do is play little ball with you.
then the fatigue for pitchers is off. not that they dont last wrong threu the games...but the recovery between games is wrong as you could run a 3 man staff and 2 relievers if you wanted and since you can put every pitch where you need to...you dont need extra pitchers.

enough. we really need another thread for this debate....I will start it....I suggest that anyone wanting to intelligently continue this discussion come to "The Great Video Baseball Debate" thread in a moment

Leave this thread for the neat things this game offers.
    thanks.

Re: The Great Video Baseball Debate

About 10-15 years ago when I was growing up I played this http://www.everyvideogame.com/ninten...ball_Stars.htm

So I really don't know what all the beef is with all these great titles. Yeah the glitches in Sega baseball game is annoying but it can be worked around. And MVP and MLB might have some issues but its not like its life threatning. Afterall you are given 3 choices and you just have to stick to what fits you best. I have no idea why people waste their time bashing other games over and over again, dont they have anything better to do beside write 1,000 word essay on how Lefty pitcher should not be pitching to righty batter in 8th inning with 1 out.

Re: The Great Video Baseball Debate

With all the games out this year, EWBB is still the greatest baseball game ever.

It's just too hard to decide between MVP and MLB this year. They both offer such a different experience it feels like I have 2 great games .

As a whole I think MVP is just benefitting from the 3 year plan they put in place, well three years ago. It was a great plan and has really showed this year. I give them props for sticking to their plan and getting it done.

MLB Reminds me a lot of the ASB series. It truly captures what the game of baseball is like with a lot of the little details. It took MVPs meter system and made it even better than the creators. They put a ton time into the game just losing sight, or not properly testing some aspects of the game, in this case AI. Which some people see and some don't.

Re: The Great Video Baseball Debate

I have to say it truly does have me ripped between MVP and MLB. They are both great games, and MLB has some incredible additions this year that make the game as real as a broadcast. The batting interface is very similar to HH's, and to me, this is how batting should be in a video game. Hitting is all about sitting back on a certain pitch, timing, and like Serial said, getting the sweet spot of the bat on the ball in the right location. The pitching interface, and the whole fact you can throw a ball on accident, even when trying to aim down the middle is great, it keeps the pitch counts accurate, and lets the AI get their walks.

Re: The Great Video Baseball Debate

EWBB is the simply reason I pick apart baseball games so much each year. I guess I just expect baseball to have evolved since those days, but they just haven't. Sure they have evolved graphically, but that is really about it.

Even EWBB used zone hitting, although it used the keypad as the zone . But seriously, go buy the EWBB engine from Eddie D., put the MLB 2006 graphics around it and call it a day LOL. Dang, if only it was that easy.

And is there a reason the Create-a-Stadium feature should have been better 10-12 years ago? MVP is the only game so far at least tried something.

I gotta give lots of props to ASB here though, because they really went beyond what any other game has done with Expansion mode, Rule 5 draft, Arbitration, etc.

Hah, hey bro..long time no hear. I used to go to the HH forums, remember that? I was ContrerasStuff there..you helped me out a couple of times with HH, and the one, pitch mod you gave me made it pure perfection. I stopped going to that forum as there were too many children there.

Any tips for this game? I had to get a PS2 just for this.
