You know what helps in softball.....paragraphs!!!! Damn, Coffey!!

You're overthinking everything. This is softball. It's supposed to be fun. We opened our season on Monday with a split (11-9 loss and 27-2 win). I came out in the first game tight as hell and pitched like ****, missed two balls up the middle that I should have got to, and only went 2-5 at the dish (lining out to the 3rd baseman on 3 straight ABs). The second game, I just chilled and remembered that the season was about fun.... I went 7-7 with 3 HRs, 2 Triples, and 2 Doubles with 11 RBIs. Plus, pitched and fielded my position quite well.

The worst thing about softball is the guys who take it too seriously. Just have fun.

I know its about fun thats why in my first game I gave up my spot in LC to a guy that was in RF cuz I knew he wasnt having fun in RF...but now im stuck in right, the part about people not having fun is whats making me not have fun....the people that are only getting 1-2 innings a night (some none at all) arent having fun, and that gets me frustrated cuz they paid the money to play just as the guys who play the whole game did.

The coaches are the ones who take it too seriously, they leave themselves in the whole game, everygame. And try to keep the better players in for as long as possible, when it should be split 3 inn/4 inn.

Great game tonite, ended up playing 1st base...the first time ever playing on the bases. I got 2 guys out thanks to some assists from the SS and 2B, then I had one ball get by me coming from SS but the guy held at 1st so no extra bases.

Hitting I went 2-3 with a single and a triple, scored after the single but after the triple they said I didnt tag up on a deep fly, so on my way back to the bench they tagged 3rd for the out....it looked to me he had caught it but apparntly once it hit his glove I turned and ran, he bobbled it once I turned my back so he didnt have control when I thought he did.

We ended up winning it by 7, everyone got significant playing time and I got out of my slump....good night!

I went out there and told myself, I am gonna hit hard and just have fun....and even after being put to start at 1st (i was extremely nervous cuz I have trouble catching throws off a hop and I had never played 1st before).....and it all worked out, so from here on out I am going out with the same mentality.

We are now 4-3 and have won double the games we won all of last year, I am just hoping we beat each team at least once this season.

While I agree that it is pathetic when dudes take it really seriously and then behave like jerks, at the same time, I have never liked the idea of "This is softball."

The way I see it, when you hit your late-20s/early-30s, for most guys, the days of playing most team sports are long in the past. Tackle football is a distant memory (except maybe for Turkey Bowls), baseball is out (where are you going to find 30 - 40 year olds who can pitch), basketball is still possible, but it gets easier and easier to get injured.

Softball, however, is something that you can play into your fifties, and even your sixties, with lots of people your age/younger. Sure, you may see the occasional 50 year old playing basketball, but, lots of guys play softball for years. I really respect the sport and want to play well, so I play a lot and I work hard on my hitting, fielding, and baserunning. And, most importantly, I always have a great time with my softball friends, because we love the game, and the leagues we play in are a huge focus of our attention. We strategize, make line-ups, complain about unfair rules and poor sport opponents and the like.

As far as playing a team sport goes, softball is about as good as it gets for a 34 year old guy like me....

That doesn't change the fact that there are always THOSE GUYS. We played two last night. There was 20 people out there to have a good time, and one there trying to slide into 2nd Basemen to break up double plays....IN FRICKIN' SOFTBALL!!!!!

Believe me, I'm 32, so I completely understand what you're saying about the lack of team sport opportunities for the chronologically challenged... but SOFTBALL GUY sucks the life out of a game instantly!

Well...we have our first ever win streak! In our 2nd season in existence. We won by around 10...I went out there not worrying about playing time and just looking to have fun (since it worked in the last game for a few hits)....well it seems to have worked again, My 1st 2 ABs were nice liners over 2nd base the i got doubles off of, then I popped out deep to LC, then in my final AB they moved their LC and RC in toward where my 1st 2 hits went and I sent it down the RF line and got a triple...shouldve been an inside the parker but instead of just running and listening to the base coaches i watched the ball into the OF....had i just focused on running i think i couldve made it all the way around...but i'll settle for the triple and our 1st ever win streak!

So after only getting 1 hit (not counting bases reached on errors) in the 1st half of the season I have gotten 5 in the last 2 games (4 of those being extra bases)...i wish i wouldve been using the strategy to not worry about people and their PT and all that added crap and just gone out to have fun to start the year...possibly couldve changed the outcome of a few games....but im just looking to continue this win streak and keep playing well and having fun.

We lost by about 10, but barely had enough to start the game, we started with 6 starters missing, 4 of them showed up during the game, the 2 coaches had to work so they didnt make it at all.

I went 2-4 with a double, a triple, a pop out, and a strike out....looking, it looked a little deep...i was stressed about not having enough and then the pressure of being down so much i think caused me to go back to what i was doing wrong the first half of the season...i dont know how i managed to get the triple and double to be honest, i wasnt even watching the ball all the way to the bat like i had finally started doing the past 2 games.

Defensively I had one deep grab almost at the fence then had about 3 grounders I fielded...nearly threw a guy out at 2nd.

But considering we were without 6 starters including 2 in the center of the OF, our 2B, P, C, and 3B...with our P and LC guys not playing at all (the coaches that were working) once we got the 4 starters in we made a nice run to close it within 6 after being down 15...hopefully we can get everyone there for our final 3 reg season games.

We have the playoffs for one of my Spring coed leagues tonight. We are the #1 seed, and we play the #4 seed (who we lost to by one run in the Fall league finals) tonight at 6:15. If we win, we play the winner of the #2/#3 game at 8:45.

I love the playoffs! The best is - the Tuesday and Wednesday night summer season starts up on June 21st....

Nick - when do you guys have playoffs?

I believe ours start up the week after next...which sucks because I will be gone...hopefully it will storm all week long.

As for tonites game we won by about 5....I went 2-4 both singles, couldve been doubles but i was hitting behind a big man so i got helfd up. we were without our pitcher, 2B, and SS for the whole game...it was rough. Thursday we play the team that we had the "altercation" with...i know they are gonna come ready to kill us every way possible....hopefully we can have all of our guys there.

Wow, while i was gone last week the team lost 2 games. In the second one team that takes it too serious started a pissing match with 2 of our guys so that was interesting....

The tournament started today, our first game at 7:30 was a close one til the end and we ended up losing by 1, so we went to the losers bracket and had to play again at 9:30, the other team starts off big killing us, then in the 3rd the 2 guys tha were causing the trouble the last game came and were talking crap to us standing by the opposing bench....this continued the whole game, it looked like we were done going into the bottom of the 7th when we were down 8 and got 2 outs against us......then we scored 7 runs, then the guy they were talking crap to drove in the tieing run, then the next batter sends a deep HR over the fence for the walkoff 2 run HR to win by 2! it was great....then as we were going through the line shaking hands i (being an immature lil brat ) was looking back at those guys mocking one in the most redneck voice saying what is apparently his favorite catch phrase "COME NOW, COME NOW!"

                        it was great!

Well, the season is done....we ended up playing the team that was running their mouths the past 2 nites we played....we lost by the 12 run rule in the top of the 7th....everyone was playing like crap either in the field or at bat....or both. I had one error but 3 catches and a few catches on one hoppers to hold the runners.....at bat i went 1-3 all 3 hits went straight towards the pitcher, soft shots too, nothing too hard to get. Looking forward to next year, we have a pretty solid team coming back.

We are only 10 games in (7-3) with 10 left to play before playoffs in August.
