    Hitting help needed....

I am getting frustrated by this game. Pitching is fine...if I miss on location, I pay for it.

    Hitting though...a whole different story.

As the Yanks, I can't see to hit the ball out of the infield.

Here's my question: Do you have to use the left stick or not? Can you just swing without any aiming or do you have to use the stick?

On MVP (PC)...the hitting feels really good. I actually feel like I can pull the ball or go opposite field. MLB2k5 seems like I have no control whatsoever.

any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the left stick to aim it....I do it all the time, especially when stealing so I hit it in the hole where the 2B or SS is supposed to be but isn't 'cause they're covering 2nd.

Are you using power or contact swing?

EVERYTHING depends on sliders and settings. True Aim is three times easier than Cursor, so start with that. I’d suggest pitch speed in the 20-30 range to start (I play with it @ 40). If you bump up the User Batting Contact slider, you’ll be able to hit the ball without aiming the left thumbstick. I found I could hit the ball this way if Batting Contact was around 50 or higher. So maybe try that, and then lower it when you want to up the difficulty.

Also, lowering AI Corner and AI Location sliders will make it easier to tell balls from strikes. Try setting them @ 10 for starters. Plus, any balls over the plate will tend towards the middle, rather than the corners: also easier to make contact.

thanks for the tips....I will give them a try.

I usually just use contact swing...unless going for a HR...then I use the power.

Another suggestion: stick with the contact swing for now. Generally speaking, batting ratings are over-programmed in the game, plus higher average/contact ratings add a fly ball boost to the swing anyway. So it’s very easy to hit HRs and sac flys with the contact swing with many if not most players. On top of that, making contact with the power swing is inordinately difficult in comparison, with very little difference in the result even if you do. So the risk-reward tradeoff simply isn’t worth it IMO.

One more thing if I may add. Be patient. When I started my GM off in the first couple games I couldn't hit anything almost. I would always leave runners stranded and barely manage to get three runs.

I don't swing at the first pitch anymore, unless it's to my liking. And I usually run the counts now higher and wait for the pitch to my liking.

The hitting in this game is the most frustrating out of any baseball game i've ever played. It always seems no matter where or how i hit the ball i hit it right to either the pitcher, 1st, or 3rd basemen. Meanwhile using my Fergie Jenkins or Luis Tiant caps (both 100 ovr since i havent quite grasped how to make pitcher caps yet) on the 77 sox team i made i get shelled.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

You have to move the AI Skill slider way down to stop the CPU auto-hits – 30 tops (I play with it @ 15).

And I’d suggest User Batting Contact needs to be dropped way down as well – I play with that @ 15 as well. It’s not the complete answer because the game is programmed to send a lot of balls up the middle toward the P. But I’m finding the more selective my hitting becomes, the fewer “same hits over and over” I’m seeing.
