    The ultimate gamekiller...

    the WHOLE game....

i have both this and mvp for xbox....

i CANT STAND certain things on mvp... commentary, at the end of the season cr*ppy pitchers going from 300K a yr to 2M a yr after a horrible season.... alotta stuff really, i dont even find the gameplay that good..

BUT... im trying to get into this game and its even worse.... graphics areamazing, so is the commentary, but i find pitching pretty easy, batting is sooo random, fielding sucks, and the franchise is broke... why no patch i do not understand... i cant play season, cant fo it... every sports game i always sim the first yr... that way i can get rid of players that are making too much money or are rated high but older.. for baseball and soccer it doesnt really matter for drafts (no draft in soccer), but in football and bball it does and now i do it for all sports....

but ya, i really am trying to get into this but i just cant... and i hate EA... i have loooong b4 the exclusive rights deal but now even more....

how have you guys who still play not gotten sick of this yet? maybe a bulb will flash for me

Sadly I gave up on this game about two months ago. It has so much potential but this year it's just a bad game, hands down. I like MVP, I mean it's okay. It's a bit too arcady for my taste, the graphics look like cartoons to me and I don't really like the hitting interface but oh well, it's gonna get my through this year just fine. Hopefully MLB 2K6 will be ten fold better than this year's offering.

Still playing; and I like the game even more than I did a month ago…

You’re right about the hitting. Once the fielding edits were more or less figured out, I started focusing on the hitting ratings. They’re super-juiced and half the problem. The other problem is the AI Skill slider – it generates auto-hit gappers, which makes shifting your IF-OF pointless because the game program simply places the hit where your fielders aren’t.

Anyway, I now play with AI skill @ 10 – which means editing my team’s pitchers in order to make them less effective, but that’s another story. With batter ratings, I came up with a whole new system. Batters’ Average ratings end up higher than the default ratings they were given – which also helps offset the Confidence issue of batters not being able to hit – but their 2B, 3B and HR ratings are all a lot lower. Bottom line: I now have both ground ball and fly ball hitters, and because the AI Skill slider isn’t creating artificial auto-hits, my hitting game is starting to look like MLB baseball rather than Triple Play baseball. And it makes shifting the IF-OF an important part of the game now.

But the game is pretty much a root beer coaster without major editing, no question and I agree.

Is there an AR file with these edits or do people just have to do it manually?

Cause I'm always willing to give this game another shot.

say baa7, i'd really like to give your system (roster and settings) a try, any chance you can upload an action replay save file here for us to try, thanks.

I have an AR roster that isn’t all that MLB accurate – I removed all the AAA players and moved all the Cubs to different teams. In other words, it’s something people probably aren’t interested in except to maybe test how the game plays with: 1. all the fielding edits; 2. User pitchers' pitching and control ratings lowered (a lot less User control when pitching); 3. The AI Skill slider lowered down around 10-15.

That’s been my default roster for about a month now. I ended up starting a season, but couldn’t deal with what I feel are horribly programmed batter ratings. They’re not only juiced, they’re terribly inaccurate compared to their real situational splits from 2004. Fixing those ratings is the project I’m working on now, except I’m also tweaking Aggressiveness ratings (too many pitchers try to steal and too many position players don’t steal enough), plus several more pitchers ratings that were programmed in a very hap-hazard manner. So I don’t anticipate having all those edits done and that roster finished for another couple of weeks.

What type of "situational splits" from 2004 are you looking at? Because 2004 is too small of a sample to use...

Righties should hit about ten percent worse against LHP than RHP, Lefties should hit whatever their career split is, and there should be no other splits introduced...

Tell that to whoever programmed the stats in this game. They're awful. Every other player's stats are way off. Not just in totals, but things like L vs R hitting. A ton of righty hitters hit righties better than lefties, and vice versa. And with pitchers in particular, probably 75-80% of rightie hitters hit righties better than lefties (and vice versa). It's pretty pathetic.

some righties do hit righties better... there is a lot more righty pitchers than lefties... so you see a lot of right handed pitchers... Miguel Cabrera from the Marlin's hits righties and has trouble vs. lefties...

When I first got MLB 2k5, I loved it. Now I am just bored of it from all the stuff, etc. like fielding, and the glitches.

For those that are fed up with this and have a PS2 I recomend MLB2006. In my opinion the best baseball game of the year and in a long time.

I had it when I had my PS2, and it' sfanstatic...but, it also has glitches.

A lot of games freezes, and a picther's stanima decrease if you skip a few innings, just to name a couple.

Yea MLB 2k5 does have a few gliches such as missed stats, but overall I enjoy it. I am 7 games into my season with the Jays and have had reasonable games of 11-5 versus the A's to 0-2 versus the Sox.

I wanted to try MLB 06 but I heard about the freezing though I am signed up for gamerang so I will probably rent it through that or Blockbuster.
