There is no way I can play from the pitchers view. The fielding view is hard enough to pick up the ball in play and the transition from behind the pitcher when the ball is hit is enough of a delay to really mess it up for me.

I tried this using the normal homeplate view and it worked somewhat. I just found it harder to time the crosshairs because they are travelling further. I suspect however that if I continued to play this way it wouldn't take very long to get the timing down. Still.. it's worth experimenting with more. Combined with my slider set which produces a very patient cpu hitter, this may provide some walks at least.
