What MLB 2K5 World Series Edition coulda and shoulda been

Considering the title, they should've emphasized the World Series more. Put more classic teams in the game... And better ones for cryin' out loud...

If they wouldn't have limited themselves to World Series matchups, then they just coulda plucked the best teams to make it to the World Series over history, and teams that didn't necessarily win either...

Take maybe 32 teams... Allow the user to match them up any way they like: in a season or a playoff, customizable number of games... Editable rosters of course...

I don't know... Just seems like there was opportunity for a great game...

The World Series has a number of classic historical moments, teams, and venues that could've been the highlight of this unusual 2K Sports offering, things that would've not only helped distinguish it more from the first "Spring" MLB 2K5, but also would've made for a better game...

Next year maybe? Seriously... I would by a game that just had classic teams that you could pit against each other in a battle to get to and win the World Series. That would be a cool game.

Well, they coulda fixed the danged game. For me, what's the sense in adding modes when you don't fix gameplay bugs. I can answer that, profit and not caring about what baseball gamers really think.

First make the game baseball. They knew good and well the bugs in the game and, as far as I can see, except for night games in Frisco and the passed ball thing, it's the same. The roster was no update. What baseball person can look at the San Diego Padres and see Rod Beck still on the team and not say, "Uh, fellas, we need to dump this guy"?

I don't expect MLB or these guys to get their act together next spring and give us a baseball game with less bugs. MLB supposedly added a flock of extra developers. Great, more hands and more minds to put more MODES in a game that don't work. I don't know what MLB2k5 will do, but if my pitcher justs throws strikes all day long that's not baseball.

I wrote a nice email to them pre release of this game and got a response to list some of the bugs and they'd find out if they were fixed. I think I listed 5 or six just so they wouldn't get turned off by them. Well, they must have, as I got no response. And what did we get? A buggy baseball game again.

Sorry, but sittin' here getting my morning jolt of caffeine. I intend to send another email to them and this time it won't be pretty.

Now thats a great idea, I think someone did that as a roster for high heat 2002 a long time ago. If it was like that, that would kick ***. I would love to use the 86 mets in a season against say uhh the New York "Polo Grounds" Giants or the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Just for the heck of it... A list of classic teams I'd like to see in a World Series game:

(done rather hastily, with the help of: World Series History: Recaps and Results)

        1. 2004 Red Sox They broke The Curse.
        2. 2002 Angels Winners of a memorable series
        3. 1997 Marlins Stacked one year wonder.
        4. 1996 Yankees Return to greatness.
        5. 1995 Indians A great team that lost.
        6. 1993 Phillies Another memorable team that lost.
        7. 1991 Twins Kirby Puckett.
        8. 1990 Reds Nasty Boys bullpen helped derail Oakland's supposed dynasty.
        9. 1988 As Dominating team that lost.
        10. 1986 Mets Some may say they just got lucky, but they were a great team too.
        11. 1985 Cardinals Speed and defense, and pitching too.
        12. 1984 Tigers Dominating team, perhaps best team of the 80s.
        13. 1982 Brewers Lost, had great lineup... Though any lineup with Stormin' Gorman Thomas is great.
        14. 1979 Pirates We are family.
        15. 1977 Yankees Reggie.
        16. 1975 Reds Big Red Machine.
        17. 1973 As Middle of three consecutive title teams.
        18. 1967 Cardinals Bob Gibson.
        19. 1963 Dodgers Koufax and Drysdale.
        20. 1961 Yankees Maris and Mantle.
        21. 1957 Braves Hank Aaron.
        22. 1956 Yankees Don Larsen perfect game.
        23. 1955 Dodgers Pitcher Don Newcombe 20-5 W-L, Hitter Don Newcombe 1.072 OPS
        24. 1954 Giants Mays and The Catch.
        25. 1947 Dodgers Losing team featuring a rookie Jackie Robinson.
        26. 1946 Cardinals Stan Musial team that denied Ted Williams.
        27. 1936 Yankees Joe D.
        28. 1930 As Legendary Connie Mack managed this team.
        29. 1927 Yankees Obviously.
        30. 1919 White Sox Shoeless Joe and the Black Sox.
        31. 1918 Red Sox The Curse began shortly after.
        32. 1908 Cubs Tinker to Evers to Chance.

Then you let users set up a playoffs or season using these teams, and Call the game: "MLB 2K6 Classic World Series Edition".

I'd buy a game like this in a heartbeat.

Also, they'd have to have classic stadiums in any type of Classic World Series game... And maybe they could rip off that old time "Cooperstown Effect" from MVP 2005... (edit: or just have home games for teams pre-1960 or so be in black and white)

Plus they could have cut scenes from different eras... And Home Run Derby of course...

2K Sports needs to start working on this game NOW... Take the engine from MLB 2K6 and use it for this theoretical Classic World Series game, and release the game next fall or late summer as the last baseball game for this generation of consoles... A great way to finish up.

Re: What MLB 2K5 World Series Edition coulda and shoulda been

Granted, 2K didn’t promise much. In fact, they told us nothing! But, this title still depresses me. I honestly didn’t expect a HUGE upgrade from it’s original 2k pre- baseball seasons release. But, come on! “ALL” I wanted was to NOT be able to toss strikes 99% of the time. I did manage to throw 12 balls in a game last night, however? Exceeding 80 total pitches in a game isn’t as easy, though. My 3B charging ANYTHING, would have been a nice upgrade, too?

I actually bought this game, expecting the rosters to be “Up to date”. Andrew Jones’s “Up to date” HR total would be 51! Not 29! Sure, Francouer IS in the game. But, if Miller & Morgan refer to him as #7, what differentiates this “upgrade” from it’s last offering? I STILL Love World Series’ graphics in this game, it’s commentary, & appreciate the few things corrected from it's original release (AKA: night games on the west coast, & the ability to turn off the strike zone, come to mind) BUT, If I wanted to change a minor leaguer’s name to Felix Hernandez, Matt Cain, or Brandon McCarthy to keep the rosters “Up to date”… I’d spend the time changing their “MVP” names, as the game play is better. (Yes, IMO…)

Now that I’m done “Bitching” (sorry for the language, but that’s what I’ve been doing…) I DO think the series is heading in the right direction. Hopefully, the series will make the LARGE leap forward it’s 2K6 basketball brother did?

“2K5 World Series Baseball”… Good game, same game, minimal upgrade.

NOT be able to toss strikes 99% of the time.

And this game won't be anything until they get this fixed. This is the biggest BUG of all of them.

More ideas for a Classic World Series Edition:

Allow the user to set up the Season mode, customizing the number of games, choosing the playoff format, alligning each division...

Also have a fantasy draft option that would allow for you to mix up the rosters...

You have to admit a game like this would be sweet.
