    2K3 or 2K4?

2K5 has a number of well-documented problems. I know that. I've played it. But I've never played 2K3 or 2K4. What do you think of these earlier versions? Is one clearly better than the other? Would you recommend one or the other over 2K5? Thanks.

    Re: 2K3 or 2K4?

Well, I played 2K3 on the PS2 and 2K4 on the Xbox, so I can't compare visuals (I heard that 2K3 looked better, but whatever). 2K4 had some great slider options to tweak the game to how many balls/strikes the pitcher will pitch... even for the Human pitcher. 2K3 had its sparks, too. I can't quite think off of the top of my head where 2K3 beat 2K4, but if you're to pick one, I'd pick 2K4.

Don't know why, but despite all its problems, while it definitely doesn't play as good a game of solid baseball, 2K5 is the most fun to play IMO.

2k3 seemed kinda easy and predictable to me. Never played 2k4 so I would pick 2k5 as the one I would play the most.

2K4 was much better imo. lots of slider tweaks to get the game to play a very realistic game of baseball. I'd still be playing it now if I could find a decent roster

Rex Hudler commentating and HORRID animations in both. But I would say 2k4 was a bit better in my opinion. I will not carry on but 989's MLB has been VERY good the last two years, especially this years. But on your question, I again would say 2k4 though I thought I remembered alot of people "praising" 2k3 as like one of the best ever. To each his own.

I purchased 2k3 and did not like it. 2K4 has lots of slider options and it plays the best game of baseball that I have seen. Problem is its so annoying to play with Hudler doing the commentary and the whole feel of the game graphically is just off to me. If you want good baseball 2K4 is the better game!

2k4. overall, it was like a patch of what was wrong with 2k3. 2k3 was great but hit variety was limited. and there were things you just couldnt do yet.

2k4 got bashed in reviews because it did not add any new features, but many acknowledged it did fix what needed to be fixed in 2k3.

Jim did some last year for it, don't think he did any this year. I would do some myself but I will just wait till next year and see if 2k does a better job, if not I'll just go back to 2k4 or homerun king.

                    Re: 2K3 or 2K4?

I'd definately say 2k4, which IMO has the best gameplay of any baseball game today. The graphics were very eh, the animations were as well. But it was a great game with the sliders and what not. I still play playoffs in that game every once and a while. I just wish the atmosphere wasn't SO dead in the game.

Also, to those who were asking I have a VERY rough roster set it made for the 2005 season. It's mostly focused on the major moves, the Yankees, Mets and Red Sox and some of the other better teams. I haven't created any rookies (besides Cano). But if anyone wants to use it as a base I'll post them tomorrow at some point. I also have a fantastic set of sliders (I think they were Bigfnjoe's but I don't remember seeing how it was a year and a half ago.)

                        Re: 2K3 or 2K4?

I'm going to have to disagree with some of you here. 2K3 is easily the better game. When 2K4 came out it was considered a slight step back by most fans of the series, including myself. The pitching, for example, did not have the same feel as 2K3 (different release points and camera angles), which has the best baseball feel of any game I've played for both batting and pitching. There were few graphical improvements from 2K3 to 2K4, if any. Gameplay, as I already stated, took a slight step back, IMO. I played both extensively. I had some great games in both, but I clearly preferred 2K3, in large part due to the fact that 2K4 was almost the same game but was missing some small, but key details. 2K3 was also a better 2-player game based on my experiences. 2K4 is still a very good game, far better than the current 2K version, but aside from the posts in this thread, the general consensus leans heavily towards 2K3, which is considered by many as one of the great baseball games of all-time and the peak of Sega/2K baseball. Do some research and you'll find the reviews and gamer impressions (both editor and consumer) favored 2K3. After 2K3, the series got progressively worse each year. This opened the door for competitors like MLB and MVP.

*** After posting I went back and found these. They're links to all or most reviews for both games, including Operation Sports - 2K4 averaged a 78, 2K3 an 89. Doesn't prove anything, but it helps my point and they compare both:
