do you think the CPU can hit the ball in 2k6?

because in 2k5 I could throw a shutout every game on the highest difficulty

and it's not because i am good, it's because the CPU just can't hit

Actually, the problem was the User pitchers were too good. Just reduce their pitching ratings by 50%. And yes: this is one of several make-or-break questions for 2K6. Have they ixed it?

Agree 100%, the game played terrible last year becasue of this. Will be my #1 concern.

The only fix I found was not to throw the ball in the lower half of the strike zone. I either left the stick neutral or pressed up on it (and obviously right/left) when throwing a pitch, but never threw it down in the zone. The CPU would get 2 hits a game if you did that.

how can something like that be overlooked by the testing people?

I also hope that the CPU hits better in this year's version. I really hate having to screw around with sliders and such.

Lower all your pitchers' pitch ratings by 50%. Takes 5 minutes and completely solves the problem, and you can pitch anywhere in the strikezone and they'll hit it.

I will reiterate this for the developers: The main reason some things end up so wacky in this game... swing animations look terrible because they are so upright, the catcher framing a ball at the player's letters still in the strike zone, and even the top and bottom of the strike zone being in two completely different area codes... it's because the top of the strike zone is too high up. That, and I don't think the bottom is low enough.

Looking at the tutorial videos from the last BLT, from batter to batter, it looks like they adjust according to their height (or batting stance, or whatever). Good... the hard part is over with. NOW they need to learn that the top of the strike zone isn't at a batter's chin. Solve that, and you should solve a LOT of problems with this game.

You are correct on that statement. I've had games where I got my rear handed to me on a platter by the CPU. I guess everyone attacks and plays differently. I am a firm believer in sliders and I fine tune them every now and then as my skills progress. This game isn't perfect, but I've yet to find one where I could say"this is the be all-end all" game of the decade.

I'll give that a whirl this weekend. I think I had given up on 2k6 back in April before you worked most of your magic.

Also try lowering your pitcher's Control ratings by 50%. It significantly improves User pitching in that it becomes a lot tougher to paint the corners and throw strikes all the time.

I actually enjoy tweaking ratings and sliders and figuring out what makes a game tick. The thing with 2K5 is that yes, it's horribly programmed out of the box. But underneath the poor programming is a game engine that, when tweaked via ratings edits and sliders, plays a pretty good game of baseball. It doesn't get rid of a lot of the built-in bugs and glitches, but it fixes enough that it makes the game worthwhile.

I couldn't have said it any better! I might get flamed for this-but-this game has grown on me,I've had some good series battles AND will continue to use it until the new one is out. The thing I really like here is that you don't always win-it is not a given. Also, the atmosphere is baseball goodness IMO.

That's what keeps me playing it. It's just like the real thing: like watching a MLB game on the tube. Better than the real thing actually if McCarver and Buck happen to be announcing...

And the pitcher/batter interface, once properly tuned with edits and sliders, is the best ever in any game I've played on the Xbox.
