    Inside Edge in Dynasty

Lookin at the screenshots posted today (nice job guys) reminded me of an issue i had with MVP. In your dynasty or franchise or whatever 2k calls it, do you guys know if the Inside Edge information changes at all? Meaning are the spray charts going to be the same for every player 10 years from now? How about the pitching and batting tendencies?

Doesn't have to change a whole lot, but i think its real important when you get the rookies. It would be nice to you know have some 'control' over how your player develops. If for some reason you do certain things well with a player, i think the inside ege information should reflect that for the next season.

Im excited for this game i hope it does good, I havent ever played a 2k baseball game so im looking forward to the change of pace. I wish the whitesox were rated a little higher on speed and defense, but thats ok!

The Inside Edge ratings stay the same throughout a player's career -- that was answered in one of the developer interviews.

So how does inside edge work with rookies and players introduced later on in dynasty? It would be ******** if a rookie has the same inside edge info 6yrs into his career....it could be a game killer for dynasty fans.

That's apparently the way it is. The developer kind of shrugged the question off in the interview by saying it's just not possible to program everything that people would like, into the game. Doesn't bother me because I don't play franchise mode. But it does kind of defeat the purpose of "purchasing" IE reports, if you know what the report says after the first game -- and it never changes after that. That's why I've been saying all along the whole idea of buying IE reports is arcadey and stee-u-pid. That info should just be in the game by default. Bah...

If this is true it is really sad. We can turn it off right? Might be an option down the road.

Wow, this is sad. I thought these were dynamic based on performance.

Kinda sad if the IE can't evolve. I guess this means I can't call up a project and let him work his way into the lineup or rotation.

This is the kind of thing that really bugs me with developers.
You could EASILY see what kind of thing would be a "hit" or a "flop" with gamers by throwing some ideas out there on the message boards(we know you read the damn things) and see how people feel about new options in a game. Even if it means you would find out what guys would love/hate to see in such an option.
I agree with the guys in this post. NOTHING is static...so making the IE tendencies stay the same throughout an entire players career is a complete waste of time.
Good idea + poor implementation= complete waste time.

Yep. Sure had everyone excited though, didn't it. Now, what about the gameplay?

I think this is the answer to the specific question. The answer sort of bugged me too, mostly because I asked the question.

K Bomber: First off the video this week showing how Inside Edge is to be implemented is absolutely sick. My love of baseball is likely related to my love of statistics, so this type of feature is my idea of a gaming wet-dream

My question is this, baseball is a game of adjustment. Players will be successful and get on rolls relative to both pitching and hitting, only to have their opposition adjust in order to take the elements of that kind of success away. I may be smacking the cover off anything with heat but be completely baffled by a curve or slider. Then I might adjust to breaking pitches only to get gummed up by heat. Beyond that, tendencies will also be dictated by the stage of a player's career, so if I'm a flame-throwing fastball, sinker, slider type of pitcher in my youth, I might need to adjust in my later years to be more of a junk-baller with a repertoire of change-ups and curves.

Will Inside Edge manifest and track CPU adjustment according to this type of natural adjustment/progression, whether in-season or in-career? I love franchise style modes and to see a player naturally and logically evolve in this manner would just about send me into absolute spasm

This coupled with the types of animation improvements suggested by Chien Yu are making me absolutely goofy with anticipation

The media on this game has set the bar very high -- are you going to deliver? (I'll forward my address for such delivery....... :0) )

                    Have fun...............
                    .
Answer: You are absolutely correct in stating baseball is all about making adjustments to what the other guy is doing. Unfortunately, however, we won't be going into that level of detail with our Inside Edge implementation (maybe in the future). We want to ensure we get the basics done right before looking for advancements with our Inside Edge implementation
                    .
As I read that, Inside Edge won't update and evolve as you play in franchise. How that impacts franchise moving past year one to incorporate player progression is a big question

                    Have fun........

                      Re: Inside Edge in Dynasty

It took 10 or more years for sports games to let AT LEAST 2 human controlled teams in the same franchise/career modes. For 10 years I bought the next sports game(baseball, basketball, football, hockey) hoping that they would let my brother run 1 team and I run the other. Every year and every game would only let us run to seperate franchise? What fun is that(no matter what sport it was)when the CPU is the only competition? The "big games", and "rivals" meant nothing! The games may have said Franchise Mode on the box, but having only player was dumb. I believe we quit buying/wasting our money on sports games because of this reason. I know I'm not the only person who has friends/brother's/sister's who don't play on-line, and need this option in sports games. Every type of game now. I don't want to play a 55 year Franchise/Dynasty by myself?? I have to agree with somebody that posted that it should have been adjusted/fixed a little bit. Now, if I find out that later on this IS TRUE from reading other posts, I'm taking my money off of it and I'll wait for summer for something else. I've got a 360 and I sold my xbox. Plus, I have no games to play as it is. I beat COD2, and NFSMW. And 2Khockey lost it's luster. I took all the games back to the store, because I don't play on-line, and once I beat the games the replay/trade-in value goes down.
