    Customization, Announcers, and ASB

    Guys:

Can you tell me about the game in these areas:

    1. Customization--create a player, create a team, player editor, team editor, etc?

    2. Announcers: who are they and how do they do

    3. Still looking for a replacement for ASB in terms of depth. Is this it?
Currently playing Axis Football (2020) as the Nebraska Thunder

    1. Player editing is very in-depth. You can edit all info, attributes and ratings except for the face, But there are hundreds of fake FA's you can choose from if you need a choice of faces, plus you can create players from scratch of course. There'a also a huge data base of first and last names you can choose from that John will say in-game.

    2. John Miller & Joe Morgan are simply the best ever in a video sports game. If 2K6's game play bombs, you could still play CPU-CPU games, just to listen to those two describe the action. With the right sliders, it sounds just like a ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.

    3. Unfortunately, most other aspects of the game are about as deep as a puddle in the desert... in mid-summer. No create a team, no minors, and I don't know much about franchise but it sounds like it's pretty bare bones. But John and Joe... wow!

BTW: I'm happy with the "depth" of 2K baseball, with the exception of the lack of split ratings (home vs away; day vs night; month to month performance; etc). Me, I think managing minor leagues, building ballparks and moving teams is gimmicky, but then again I'm not a franchise person - strictly season mode for me. And with the exception of the lack of splits as I mentioned, between the player/roster editing/customization freedom, the presentation and decent game play, 2K is fine with me.

Great announcing!!!! Yaaaaaay!!!! That's huge for me. The announcing on "The Show" is okay. but I'm getting sick of a few of there over used phrases. I like generic statements like "It's a ground ball up the middle" They could say that all day long if that's what it is, because it sounds real. It's when they take a cutsie line and say it over and over and OOOOOOVEEER THAT DRIVES ME NUTS!!!

I'm still trying to decide if I should trade in The Show for this one, or rent it first.

People might think I'm nuts, but one of the things that makes the announcing great is Kush left in a number of announcing “flubs”. There are several sound files in the game where Joe stumbles over the words, and then has to go back and correct himself. It’s a truly wild thing to include in game like that – really ingenious in some ways. It just one of many announcing additions in tha game that gives the sense of two guys just sitting around chatting it up, and not just plopped down in front of a microphone and reading from a script.

I had MLB TV last year and heard pretty well every commentary crew, and no question they're the best. Getting stuck with Buck and ESPECIALLY McCarver in the playoffs after listening to John and Joe all season, was like sitting on the pavement outside some top-quality steakhouse while having someone shove McDonalds burgers down your throat. Actually, "up your butt" is a much closer analogy when it comes to Tim.

I totally agree. Human error definetely makes it feel more authentic.

2K5 is the first and only game I never - and I mean never - quit the game at the end until John and Joe are finished their post-game wrap-up. As soon as John starts up with the "This had been an ESPN... Log onto ESPN.com..." stuff, sure, off it goes, but not before. I feel like I'm disrespecting them otherwise.

Yes, I'm aware of how twisted that is...
