    Pitching Mysteries

I'm an MVP-er, so these pitching systems are new to me.

First of all, what pitching system do people use? Zone, Zone 2, Payoff or Arcace?

"Zone" is not explained anywhere in the manual. After I hit my pitch type, then a line goes horizontally and then vertically and I try to time my button push to the "center". I get that. But what am I 'setting" with these button pushes? Location? Quality of pitch? Speed of pitch? In this mode, can you pitch the ball harder if you want to?

It appears that the manual is discussing the "Payoff" mode of pitching. But it's confusing when the Manual says select a pitch, then select a location. In fact, isn't it the opposite? Once you hit a pitch button, the pitcher goes into his windup and it's too late to set a location. Right?

I keep throwing wild pitches on this "Payoff" setting. I guess I am letting the circle-thing get too big--powering up my pitches too much.

So you set the location of your pitch (Payoff) with the left stick, then hit button for the pitch type, and then you let go of the button when you're happy with the pitch? Is that it? You don't hit the button, let go, and then punch it again in this mode? Help!

And as someone else wrote, I don't have the slightest idea how the breakpoint works. Something about R1 and the left stick.

I must say, the graphics are really disappointing. I had never seen a 2K baseball game before yesterday. The players make 'odd' movements all the time, and very little I've seen makes me feel like I'm watching anything resembling real baseball. The players seem to be about to break into a dance much of the time, with their slow motion, awkward movements.

But I'm going to give this game every chance I can, because it's got a lot of great features. So any help on pitching is appreciated. Sorry about all these questions, but I am very confused.

Payoff pitching as I see it goes like this:

    1) you can press the Right Trigger to see how the different pitches will break

    2) locate the postion of the break with the Left Stick (if you have Pinpoint pitching on, locate the position in the zone you want to HIT)

    3) Hold down the button corresponding to the type of pitch you want...the longer you hold, the more effort into the throw and the larger the circle will get.

    4) Let go at the size of the circle you want, and then press again (no hold) when the circle closes on your ball (the accuracy of your throw).

So, in effect, you have 2 button presses, a hold and tap after selecting the break location

In 2k3, I never noticed the poor animations until I bought MVP that same year. Since then, I've never liked the 2k series - the animations are hideous!
