Please try and keep off the flame wars. When I saw the title of the other thread I really wanted to make a comment as I feel really strongly about this. It's a meaningful discussion.
2k3 was so good I bought an XBOX with a chip (i'm in the UK) specifically so I could play it. I played about 3 years in franchise mode and never noticed what I would call a "bug". The trading AI was a bit soft and swing animations were allegedly horrible (altho it never bothered me) but it played a great game of baseball and areas that have been complete fiascos in the last 2 releases (lineups, depth charts, fatigue, setting percentages as ways to rest players worked PERFECTLY).
I dont recall who developed this game but they obviously TESTED IT. It therefore played a very robust game of baseball and franchise and whether you loved it or not depended on style type issues. MVP 05 was the same.
What we have seen since is developers biting off more than they can chew. They seem to have devoted all their resources to a single innovation (all new engine in 2k5, inside edge in 2k6) but failed to test the basic gameplay. This causes people to completely lose faith in the series.
I was always a SEGA fan. I loved WSB since the mid 90s and have bought every release before 2k6. But I've stopped now. I may or may not like the style but I can't tolerate a buggy game that isnt tested properly. the lineup bug in 2k5 was a complete joke (at least the passed balls was fixable) and the 2k6 freezing.......well.
They need to find out whoever owns the test plan from 2k3 or MVP 05 and buy it from them. Until they get the basics right then a whole bunch of gamers will be left to keep modding MVP 05 on the PC (like I am).
The exclusive licence situation clearly hasnt helped here. If The Show were available on the 360 then 2k would not be getting away with this so much.
Whilst there is some logic in saying that ne wgames on new consoles will always have issues I dont accept that this is an excuse to skip basic testing.
Seems like we are always "waiting for next year" with this series.
