anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
i've played about 10 games online so far and about 8 of the people whined that i threw pitches outside the strike zone and they left bad feedback.am i supposed to throw the ball down the middle so i give up a bunch of runs?if someone was throwing alot of pitches out of the strike zone against me,i would use my head and take the pitches and get alot of walks.do major league pitchers throw strikes all the time?is it just me that this is happening to?if i'm wrong about this, then someone please tell me."You probably heard we ain't in the prisoner-takin' business; we in the killin' Nazi business. Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
They should have "simulation rooms" and "arcade rooms" online so that those of us who want to play a "real" game, can. Unfortunately, you know the cheese balls would enter the sim room anyway.
I have nothing against those who want to play arcade style, but just play with one of your own so we can all have fun.
I basically donate $50 a year to Microsoft now a days just for the pathetic roster updates. It is such a shame because I use to play NFL 2K online all the time.Last edited by jrivera34; 04-30-2006, 09:13 AM.Comment

Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
I agree, last nitght I played a kid "runtyirish44" I believe. Never stopped talking from the time he requested a chat, I turned off my headset and left it plugged in after the 2nd inning, until we comleted the game. The continuous chirping I heard was something like can't you throw strikes, do you only throw balls, when are you going to throw strikes, are you only going to throw balls in the dirt bla bla bla. I also heard how come your not talking, I can't hear you (I guess he didn't get the hint that I turned off my headset).
Mind you I was throwing a mixture of balls and strikes. The continous blabber killed the experience, not to mention the self congradulatory remarks on hits and strikes. If you are looking for a realistic game DO NOT play this kid. Although I was surprised that he gave me positive feedback.Comment

Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
Sorry guys but I think it's cheese to throw a lot of balls (which it sounds like some of you are). My goal is to keep the ball somewhere in the box (or very, very close to it). I do that for a few reasons:
- Most MLB pitchers are trying to keep the ball near the zone...unless it's an 0-2 or 1-2 count and they have a pitch or two to waste
- It's very hard to judge some pitches in this game...I would challenge some of you to a game and let someone pitch like you do (if you really are throwing that many outside the zone area) and see how you do
- I have thrown 1 & 2 hitters for years with this strategy. Anyone who knows baseball it's about switching speeds, pitches, location, etc. I just played a game the other day vs. the Yankees and won 2-1.
Am I saying throw every pitch down the middle? No way. But keeping the ball in the box (or very close) makes it a lot more realistic than most of you think.Comment

Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
Throwing all balls is unrealistic. Throwing all strikes and changing speeds is unrealistic as well.
Most MLB pitchers throw around 60-70% strikes. So therefore, every 3rd or 4th pitch should be a ball if you want to be realistic. Remember, most MLB pitchers throw balls intentionally to setup another pitch. They'll throw a fastball low and away to get a hitter looking there and then come back with something off the inside part of the plate. Notice I said "off the inside part of the plate". Why? Because the hitter just saw something low and away which causes a hitter to extend the strikezone on the inside half. It's a mental thing.
Of course, I don't even play baseball online and would never play against someone I don't know so I'm not sure why I'm discussing it!Comment

Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
For everyone who's responded...about what percentage do you throw balls?
As far as people wanting to just get up there and hack...even if I know a guy only throws strikes I don't swing at every pitch. Why? If I think he's going to throw something down & in to get me to mash it into the ground for a double-play...or other situations where I don't think I'm going to get the pitch I want.
Maybe I have slow hand-eye coordination but I think it is very hard to accurately judge pitches in this game or anyone baseball game. Sure, ones that are way outside or way inside easy. But 12/6 curve is tough...some regular curves...some sliders...it is very hard. If I pitched the way some people do online I'm sure I'd get a ton of K's too.
Just got done with a league game. Other guy threw mostly strikes but a few balls. Final score 4-1. 2 of his were on an error...so I only gave up 2 runs (BTW: he was Mets). 95% were strikes...he took a lot of pitches because he was waiting to get them in certain spots.Comment

Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
Personally, there is no set % for balls thrown with me. It's when the count and situation indicates it. Many times I'll intentionally throw a ball to setup another pitch. When I pitch, I'm always looking 2-3 pitches down the road and what I want to do to a hitter. I'll intentionally run the count to 3-2 if it suits what I want to achieve.
Maybe it's just me, but if someone threw 95% strikes against me, they'd be in for some trouble. It's just too easy to direct hits and "manipulate" the baseball when hitting. That's not a terrible thing as you should be able to hit to the right side when needed.Comment

Re: anyone else experiencing the online whiner's
The ones I hate are the ones who establish that we're throwing all strikes throughout the game then when I get some runners in scoring position, they throw a bunch of junk. Then my dumass keeps throwing strikes and give up 6 straight hits.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
