I see some of you have tried to go through each individual player (or outfielder) and lowering their Arm Strengths and Arm Accuracy. While this has been reported to "work", problems will arise when one wants to play an IF in the outfield, or if you call someone up, or when you progress to 2007.
Thus, I decided to try to find a solution through the difficulty sliders, rather than the individual player sliders. Like most of you using some variation of BFJoe's sliders, I had AI fielder speed and fielding aggression down to 0. After tinkering for a while, I realized that quite realistic results can be reached when you also:
MOVE THE AI THROWING AGGRESSION SLIDER ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ZERO
I did this and have tried 3 games since then. During these games I've seen:
..Almost all throws from the outfield to home, 1st or 3rd require at least one hop. From weaker OF's, throws home take 3-4 hops and sometimes and up rolling to the plate if no cutoff has been made..
..5 total cutoffs. In three games, I can't complain, though it seems as if when there is a play at the plate, it will never get cut off even if it's going to get to the plate slow..
..a couple throws off the bag. This is what I wish I would see more of. I will turn AI errors up to 100, and see if it makes a difference..
What I liked with the Throwing Aggression down to zero is the closeness of some of the plays I was involved in. On a single to the OF, I was able to score from second two out of three times, with Griffey being the only one to nail me with a nice one-hopper. One of the two successful attempts included Bobby Abreu throwing a two-hopper that I barely beat at the plate. I was rounding third base just as he was leaning over to pick up the ball, and it made for a great play.
I should note that I am playing with no baserunner speed burst, and with baserunner speed at 70. I find this speed to work very well with Throwing Aggression turned down.
Please report your findings..
