Should I pick this game up?
This q? probably has been asked a million times, but what are the pros and cons about this game?
Thanks.Tags: None -
Re: Should I pick this game up?
rent it first. if you are not obsessive compulsive about "sim" play and stats, then at the most, buy it used. the issues with the game have been debated since its release, and to be honest, i have more important things to do than regurgitate what everyone has said is wrong with the game. i will say this, that with an open mind, the right sliders and rosters, etc. the game is fun. it's not a mindblowing simulation of the mlb experience, but even if it was, who of us would know it, (we're not major leaguers)? so, i guess what i am saying if you are willing to part with $40 or so for a fun, albeit flawed, game then give it a go. but as stated b4, rent it first. if you still are contemplating a purchase after that, then decide what you expect from a sports video game, and go from there.

Re: Should I pick this game up?
2K6 is one of the few games I've rented but didn't buy, that I have absolutely no interest in maybe picking up later when the price drops. I just don't see ever being able to overlook the glitches and poor game programming. They affect play after play, to the point where it's simply ruins the entire game experience.Comment

Re: Should I pick this game up?
I wouldn't buy it, but that's me.
I agree that you should rent it first. It's the type of game that appears to be okay when you first begin, but as you go along you'll uncover things you really can't stand.Comment

Re: Should I pick this game up?
Alright, then I won't waste my hard earned money. 2k really has produced crappy baseball games since 2k3. 2k44 was decent though.Comment

Re: Should I pick this game up?
Pros:
-player momentum(some say its overdone, I like it just the way it is)
-wind that actually works(some balls that seem like their in the park will just blow over the fence)
-Inside Edge(very detailed scouting reports for each player and the risk reward for buying them in your franchise. It was'nt a crutch as some will have you believe. It increased your chances but its not like you could own the entire MLBPA during the course of a season so you had to pick your players wisely.)
-Indepth Franchise(my selling point. You had a player morale system where you had to keep the players happy, you could call team mettings which in turn led to your player development. Players would drop or increase in ratings based off their performances and morale. Teams and players had hot/cold streaks. You had players of the week, milestones and other in season news like if a player went on a hitting steak. The game included the real MLB, player and team record for you to break. And this game featured probably the most stats in a console baseball game ever. Just like any 2K game, who knows if any of this stuff worked or was overdone. Alot of variables to consider which might lead to funny stats)
-The pitching system(best ever IMO. Although it had a con which Ill discuss later)
-graphics( the stadiums were really well done and featured great collision detection. The crowd with vendors brought life to the stadium and they caught fouls and HRs which was a nice touch. The unis were excellent although the player models left alot fo be desired)
CONS:
-stats were screwy(I'm not a stat junkie so this did'nt apply to me but is just a FYI for you or anybody else interested in 2K6. With all the diffrent vairables, its hard not to get crazy stats.
-OF arms were too strong(with some editing, you can make the game 10x better. Without edits, alot of doubles of the wall will be singles. CPU will refuse to tag up on 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to Home, etc. Also, with edits, expect to play only 1 season because rooks will throw the balance off. It sucks but oh well)
-pitching is too easy(even though to mechanics were great, hitting your location was much to easy drastically decreasing the number of walks you would throw. House rules remedied this but it sucks regardless)
-not enough animations(was'nt anything groundbreaking about the animations but there were enough to carry you through a game. Plus the pitcher animations suck, big time.)
-player faces and stances(another thing I could care less about but this is just another FYI for those interested. Many player faces and stances are off)
-Bugs, Bugs, Bugs(stats were off after mid season, various visual stats were screwed up, some report that second season comes out to only 10 games[WTF], and of course, you never know if you can actually finish a game due to "the freeze". There are more I'm sure and you can find it in your local "Bugs, Glitches" thread.
Anyway, I miss my copy. I traded it in for NCAA of all games. It may of had problems but it had alot of little things I liked plus the depth of the franchise is a plus to me. Many games felt diffrent. One game can be a pitchers deul, next a slugfest, the next can be a low scoring tie game with a walk off homer.....most baseball games usually have some predicable aspect. ie, to many hits, to many Ks, not enough DPs, to many singles, etc. 2K6 was just right in this department. I say ren before you buy of course and give it a test run.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Should I pick this game up?
I wouldn't get this game. To me it was the worst sports game that I have ever played. The only thing that I really enjoyed was the pitching. The graphics were nothing and the commentary was too off at times to be enjoyable and the hitting stick had lag. I didn't play the game long enough to see the stat problems but it is absolutely unacceptable that your franchise is unplayable after the first season. I can't imagine what the uproar would be if EA had released this game. I think that the developer for this game should be down right embarassed.Comment

Re: Should I pick this game up?
You can buy my copy off me. I've had it with this game. I gave it a fair shot, but it just plays an infuriating game of baseball. I don't know how many times I haven't been able to turn sure-fire double plays, had my second baseman dive a good two seconds after the ball is past him, or had my third baseman inexplicably rainbow a throw across the infield. Making mistakes should cost you in a baseball game. Slow animations and bizarre gameplay mechanics shouldn't. This will be the first year in a long time where I don't even make it out of the month of April in a franchise. This was truly a poor effort, and I'm incredibly frustrated because of it.Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?
