The 2K series looks like it's going to make a major comeback...

Kush developed or not, I'm really liking the look of 2K7 more & more with each new video. Something about that Gamespot CES movie really got me hyped for this game. Probably the fact that It's actually starting to look like a real MLB broadcasted game. Especially how the catcher throws the ball back after the pitch & the batter steps out & takes practice swings.... Just really impressive stuff, that this series was seriously lacking before. I know we can't tell that much as far as gameplay goes, but the visuals are mind blowing so far. Plus it was mentioned that their first priority was to tighten up the gameplay & graphics, as opposed to adding new features (mini games anyone?).

I don't have a 360, so I never got a chance to try the next gen MLB 2K6. But from the videos I've seen of last yrs game, it certainly didn't look this good. I'm not sure whether it's the hiring of Brinkman or just the progression on a next gen console... probably a little of both actually.

Sony's MLB: The Show 07 is still #1 on my list & the game I'm most anxiously awaiting. But this might just be the first 2K baseball game I'll purchase since WSB 2K3 back in the Sega days. If this game continues to impress me like this, I'll skip renting.
Anyone else feel like this series is making major progress?

Now I've just got to figure out how to get a PS3 by March 5th.

I agree. I really want this game to start taking steps to be on the same level of detail that NBA 2K7 is, and it looks to be headed that direction!

Re: The 2K series looks like it's going to make a major comeback...

For now I'll only say Somewhat Impressed (of course, I can't change my poll option now). That doesn't mean this game does not excite me or anything... that means that for the things that there are some things (very minimal, but a lot of them) that are intangibly unchanged, redone (but still indifferent towards), or done for the worse. I'm not quite sure what they are though, can't put my finger on them.

But I guess it doesn't matter much since I had no problems with 2K6 (well, I did haha), but while I'm still VERY impressed with what they're doing with this game, I am only Somewhat Impressed with what I've seen so far.

the pitching/batting video from gamespot preview looks like animations have been cleaned up...not so herky/jerky (esp the pitcher...Zambrano)

hey blzer........do you think they're releasing a 2k6.5 so that they can do some great stuff for 2k8 such as:

        playable minor leagues
        rainouts
        progressive lighting
        dynamic crowds
        roster expansions in SEP

just some early morning random thoughts
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

Oh no... this is definitely 2K7. I'm just saying that I can't pretend like I can assume other changes to the series until I see them for myself. Even if I hear about them, sometimes I misinterpret them. I expect my poll option to change within a month (tops), but I can't lie to myself and say that 20 seconds of zoom-in/zoom-out gameplay footage (without hearing any type of sound or seeing any batting/pitching interfaces, or truly seeing the enhancements to fielding) was all that I needed to say that everything that I wanted in this game was improved. I mean, what I saw in that 20 seconds was a completely different game, but I have yet to see the rest.

I think that's what I mean. Hope that makes sense.

And like I said in the trailer thread, I think that we in fact have progressive lighting this year. Maybe it's not all the way like I hope, but I put together a theory, and I have a feeling we're going to be a little more pleased with that. I think 2K8 is more of improving the franchise mode (with Inside Edge improvements) along with completely individualizing players (signature-style ala NBA 2K7). AND, if they put in my idea for defense next year (which I hope you read sometime), then all will be good.

Believe me this game would not be getting my attention if it were MLB 2K6.5. I've hated this series for yrs now & it finally looks like 2K Sports is accepting SCEA Sports challenge. Not that they wouldn't be improving somewhat anyways. But I don't think they really thought that Sony's MLB "The Show" would set the benchmark last yr for realism in a baseball game. So they've had to step up & try to at least duplicate what SCEA Sports had already accomplished 2 yrs ago. Meaning all of the signature batting rituals & personalized pitcher deliveries that make the game come to life. The big mystery is still whether or not they can top "The Shows" tight gameplay. But from the looks of the game... were in for some big changes it would seem.

All I'm saying is 2K Sports finally appears to be stepping out of the minors & into the big leagues.

Well, I remember last years hype and the complete disappointment with one of the, imho, worst baseball games ever. Therefore, it will take more than that video to get my excited. I'm just going to be patient and wait and see.

I want all the games to be super, but it's way too early.

It looks like they are fighting, with everything they have.. Competition is a wonderful thing!

I'm loving what I'm seeing this year with MLB 2K7, and 07' The Show....
The way things seem to be going, within the next couple of years these games are going to be
so refined that it will be hard to distinguish between a video game and a real game.

Heck I'm already having trouble telling the difference..
I guess you can tell I'm really "STOKED"

Thanx for the suggestion. I'm gonna try & get one sometime in early to mid February. So I'll definitely check out Best Buy around that time & see if I can pick one up.

Im with you. The game LOOKS great. But besides some animations so did 2K5 and 2K6. The killers in those games couldnt be seen on video. If not for the dumb momentum changes in 2K5 and lineup issues in 2K5 and 2K6 they would have been good games. The bugs just made them unplayable.

So far most that have voted are at least fairly impressed with what they've seen of 2K7 at the CES. The game won't be perfect by any means, but it does looks like a quantum leap in the right direction.
On a side note... It's really disappointing that Sony's MLB The Show PS3 version, was a complete no-show at the CES. I was hoping to be able to start comparing the two, since Sony's "The Show" series still reigns supreme IMO until proven otherwise.

This is my theory. They came and were setting it all up and then they saw 2k and said hell no. We can't compete with that sh!t. That looks real! Or something in those lines! I could care less witch one is better. I will buy the one that is, but the Show better by light years ahead, because I will not buy a PS3 just to play the Show! Those days are over.

Everything looks really good to me so far, but the thing i'm most impressed about is the attention to pacing and nuance. Things like the catcher throwing the ball back, nice cutscenes, little in-between animations that make you feel like its the real thing. Atmosphere. ASB did this well, as does The Show. Glad to see VC finally catching up in this dept.

The fielding animations look horrible! Especially in the outfield. They're missing a few frames.
