    Turbo Boost...

    Is anyone still weary about "turboboost" being in the game? I went back and watched the IGN PS3 videos and the sprint looked unatural. I hope we have an option to turn this off and just play based on player speed ratings.

      i like the idea of a boost only if the boost changes it from the guy dogging it into his actual sprinting speed. like if he hits an easy single to the outfield he shouldnt have to sprint full speed and save some energy. if he hitsa ball off the wall i want the guy going full bore into second. i dont like the way it is now where jose reyes and juan pierre are olympic gold medalists with the turbo boost but a-rod isnt far behind them in speed. ****, ortiz was even fast last year.

            See, I like my idea for sprint... where, in a nutshell, you cannot "track" the ball nor can you catch the ball while sprinting (by "tracking" I mean the landing cursor would disappear for a ball that's in the air while sprinting). I had a lot more to the idea, but it involves other attributes, etc.

              Yeah Blzer, that sounds cool to me too. i would like to see that for fielding.

              But I wouldn't like it for base running.

                Turbo boost would be like adding the power swing button back and that would be VERY bad.

                  I like that as well. I think that's a great idea and it should be in all baseball video games. Anybody that plays any sport knows that in certain situations you sprint as hard as you possibly can. Adrenaline kicks in when the games on the line and you run as hard as possible. How much faster you should be able to run should not be much more though. Just because your adrenaline is kicking and your all pumped up doesn't mean you are going to be able to run that much faster. I think it should go with your idea so there is a risk vs reward factor (cause when you are sprinting all out in real life it's hard to concentrate on a ball that appears to be bouncing with every step you take) and I think it shouldn't have too much of an impact. It shouldn't really be that noticeable. I do think, however, you should be able to catch a ball in the air. Most of the highlight catches made in the outfield are really done by sprinting. I think it should be very hard to make these kinds of catches and only be done by a select amount of players based on what they can do in real life. Coco Crisp and Torri Hunter are 2 that come to mind that would be able to make catches in the air while sprinting. There should be completley different animations for trying a catch while sprinting then trying a catch while running. The dives would be much more risk vs reward because if you miss it completley trying a full out dive you couldn't get right up you would be sliding across the field for a brief amount of time. I don't think you should be able to field a ground ball of course while you are sprinting.

                  I know it's off topic but I also believe fielding should be a little more skill based then it is in all baseball video games today. There should be attributes for all players of course but make it somehow possible so the human has to do some of the actual catching. This way you don't necessarily make 5 or 6 errors a game or even 1 for that matter but you don't make some plays that other players (jeter comes to mind first) can make and it goes down as a hit. Sort of like flickin the right analog stick down as the ball is almost at you mimicking the glove being down at the ground when fielding a ground ball. For the best fielders in the game there would be a much bigger timing window to press the analog stick down and for the worst fielders there would be a shorter timing window. This way you have to play all 3 aspects of baseball. Pitching, hitting and finally fielding. Let's face it fielding is way too easy in baseball games. Hitting and pitching take human skill to perform along with attributes backing up the possible outcomes of course. Fielding is just about putting your player where the ball is. No timing necessary. Obviously this would just be an option and you could go back to the old way if you didn't like. I think it would be good to at least try something to make fielding at least somewhat skill based.

                    I think what Blzers getting at (as we had a long discussion about this on the 2K boards) is that when you are in an all out sprint, your head is down or forward and you are not tracking the ball. When you let off the sprint button, your player would locate the ball, but him turning his head would cause him to slow down some. Intially you see the ball hit to the gap and have a pretty good idea of the general area it is about to land in. You press the sprint button and run to the area. Your fielder runs with his head down as fast as he can. As you approach the area, you let off the turbo/sprint button and your fielder looks up to track the ball, which slows him down. This brings up the ball marker where you go to catch the ball. He also had a strafe button (similar to football games) as well as a catch/shade eyes from sun button involved giving the user as much control as possible.

                      Why. Should there not be something in the game to represent hauling azz ? Humans dont run at the same speed 100% of the time. Something needs to represent running like mad to try and get to a gapper.

                      And I couldnt disagree with you more about the power swing. You really dont think players swing differently when trying to just make contact compared to going for the fences ?

                      Of course both of these features need to be implemented correctly and there needs to be negative reprecussions for using a sprint or power swing options.

                        I see no need for a sprint button it should come down to their stats in speed and when fatigue kicks in they run slower for the power button I don't mind them adding it if some people want it but atleast give others the option to turn it off and just use the stick. When I said power button I was referring to the unbalanced kind where all you needed to do was push the button for a homerun. So basically just give us the option to turn off/on boost and power swing and we'll both be happy.

                          To further flesh out Blzer's idea, what they should do is instead of making the ball marker disappear when you're in a sprint, have it start shaking erratically so you can't tell where the ball will land.... then slowly ease back to it's landing spot when you stop holding the turbo button....

                          I really, REALLY think this idea would go great, especially for fielding balls in the outfield...
