Re: 2k hiring game testers and many other positions
I wanted to do that when I graduated from college with a Computer Science degree until I realized it paid so little. Plus from what I've read, those jobs aren't much fun. It's not so much they let people play the game and report bugs/glitches, but following a test plan and recreating situations.Comment

QA will make you hate the game you play, big time. It sounds fun playing the same game every day but it isn't. You will only learn to avoid that game like the plague when it hits retail.Comment

Re: 2k hiring game testers and many other positions
That would take too long. What you do when testing applications is isolate occurences that may cause problems (also known as limit-cases or boudary cases.) and produce a test plan according to this. Testers are to follow that test plan to the letter. It should also be understood that the point is to find defects, not to identify that a certain aspect could be done better.Comment

I think a common mis-perception is that testers just play the game, come across bugs/glitches and report them. That isn't the case from what I've seen/read. The testers are given a test plan to follow and report bugs/glitches according to that plan (I assume they also mention other bugs they might see, but if it's not on the plan, it can easily be tossed under the rug). Developers then fix the bugs reported and move on.
My guess is a test plan has the tester run over a certain situation X number of times to make sure the desired outcome is the same under different circumstances.
I'm basing much of this off of what I've seen from the testers at a software development company that I used to work for. It didn't produce video games though so I can't really comment specifically in that area.Comment
