Are the fields big enough in this game?

I was just interested to see what people's opinion on this was.

To me the fields seem a little small, either that or the player models are too big for the field.

I could just be a little too used to the Show and MVP, but what do you guys think?

I totally agree, in last years game, balls hit to the wall were singles.
The show's field sizes are just about right, in comparison!

It was more due to the outfielders rocket arms than the size of the fields.

I don't think its because you are use to MVP because the fields in it are too small in comparison with the player models.

The dimensions have ALWAYS been small w/ this series...no difference this year either i'm afraid

Yeah this definitely played a role, everyone had a cannon last year.

Thank the grass friction, the force of the walls, the CPU fielder speed and initial throwing velocity, and the lack of air drag. The Show has all of these things properly done, 2K6 didn't.

It's not the field sizes, but the stadiums themselves are too small (in terms of number of rows, etc.).

The field size looks great to me... in one of the videos JD Drew seemed to be running forever to get to a Robbie Cano home run ball. But like Blzr said, the friction of the grass/wall is nowhere where it should be, balls seem to roll/bounce a little too awkwardly.

I don't know I saw a guy get a double in one of the vids. So I think the field being small wont hurt. Plus they look about right to me. A baseball field is not that big in real life. Except to center field. It looks about right to me.

And that is the truth, and here's how it affects gameplay:

I am a Giants fan, so naturally in 2K6 I play as the Giants in my franchise. Their right field line is at a shallow 309 feet, and their right-center power alley is at 421 feet.

Anyway, any ball hit down the line at this stadium will reach the wall and bounce off so quickly and hard, I don't think I have ever stretched a shot down that line into a double. Similarly, if I hit a ball into the right-center field gap, it is going to always shoot so quickly that neither the CF nor the RF will ever have a chance to cut the ball off, and the ball won't stop until it reaches the warning track out there (most balls should slow down well before that). So, instead of being held up to a single (assuming the ball is cut off) or instead of getting a double or a triple if you are fast (assuming the ball just gets by the outfielders), now your slowest runners are always guaranteed triples and your fastest runners are always guaranteed home runs.

It's the grass friction and the air-drag coefficient that's making these things happen before anything. Balls begin to die after being in the air or bouncing on the ground for so long. In 2K6, if the ball were to leave the bat at 100 MPH, it would hit the ground at 100 MPH... no matter how far away it was. Normally a ball would slow down to maybe 90 MPH, and that makes all the difference in the world. That plus the grass not having the ball bounce so high or roll as much... it makes all the difference in the world.

So, it's not the stadiums. It's the ball (air drag), the grass, the walls, and at least last year... the players' initial velocity on the throws (the air drag should take care of the final velocity).

I know, I said that the field sizes are proportionally correct. I said that the stadiums are too small. Remember my rant about McAfee Coliseum having about half the number of rows of seating in the outfield as it does in real life? That's what I mean about the stadiums being to small. So, a ball that should normally land in the sixth row or something now may deflect off of the luxury box windows out there (at least in Oakland).

lol you crack me up. I am not talking to you I am talking to them that say the fields are small. I am sure the stadiums are small, but they sure look a lot bigger then most games stadiums. A baseball field is pretty tiny when you see it in real life.

Considering there are only two MLB video games out on the market and The Show has stadiums of a much more proportionate size than 2K7 does, I can't agree with your statement.

All Star Baseball made the stadiums look even bigger... and when people reached a far away distance of something or hit something extraordinarily tough to hit, they would post about it. It was something great about the game and the stadiums that really made them feel massive, and the feeling of achievement when hitting something very far away. The same cannot be said about 2K7.

You have to be kidding. Those stadiums that you mention were squash together. Look at the seat they are so close to one another. It makes the stadiums look real little. Theses Stadiums look like they have more room between the isles. Any ways I like the size of the stadiums. Also the stadiums in those games you mention were to small compare to the players size. Some fans were bigger then other fans in some stadiums. lol
