Analyst downgrades Take-Two stock-EA Acquisition Target?

    News item here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6166046...ewstop;title;2

Apparently the Take-Two division is struggling, according to the analyst Michael Pachter he said: "... the publisher's currently unprofitable 2K Sports operation might be an acquisition target for its fiercest rival, Electronic Arts."

And later Pachter said: "It is clear to us that Take-Two’s sports business would have tremendous value to EA, as it would give EA a monopoly on football, basketball, baseball and hockey,"

    This is a little scary.

I don't think it is that bad. EA MVP on the PS3 and 360 could be scarier!

Most people agree that a monopoly is a bad thing, and if EA had such a monopoly across all sports games, it would be bad for video game fans of those games.

We've already seen the effect on the football franchise.

I for one would like to see 2k Sports flourish, and hopefully a successful MLB 2K7 product will help in this regard.

Analysts suck, if they say good things about a company and if the company doesnt do as expected - the analysts then turn around and say how bad the company will do and they are struggling just so the analysts can cover their butts!

Bud Fox: 2K Sports. Analysts hate it. I love it!

If you read the comments made at the end of the article there is one from someone going by the name rdo. It's interesting, seems to know what he's talking about anyway.

"why does gamespot keep printing the drivel of preacter. at e3 2005 practer predicted that by now the ps3 would be dominating, ms would be stagnant, and nintendo would be out of the console business. he has been sued multiple times for false investor info and falsafying data. he stays in london where america's investment fraud laws cant convict him. practer should be ignored, and gamestop repeatedly posting his comments is hurting their credability. take two will be fine. practer is just trying to lower their stock price to make it easier for ea to try to buy them because 2ksports is getting back into the football game so madden will have competition this year. "

This the dumbest thing I have heard and why analysts are so dumb sometimes.

Take-Two is less then a year away from GTA5. I would bet the farm that TTWO falls on this downgrades and the stock will double on the release of GTA 5. Analyst also predict the PS3 to win the console war which is less and less likely each day that goes by. Not to mention they are screaming about how great EA is when its stagnant and over valued as a company right now.

i would boycott EA if this happened because

                  1. their basketbball game blows
                  2. their football game sells because its almost cultural now, but it will BLOWS
                  3. baseball games have started to suck because of the lack of competition and if EA had not gotten Madden all of us would still be enjoying a good game of baseball..be it from EA, 2K, Accliam, etc.
                  4. Their golf is ****

I'm not sure if this is actually going to happen, but if it does I hope it doesn't disrupt next year's baseball game. Although MLB 2k7 is yet to be released so nobody is sure just how improved the game is over its predecessor, I think most can agree that the franchise looks to be on the right track. And as much as I loved MVP Baseball 2005, I would hate to see next year's only baseball game be a first attempt at bringing the MVP franchise into the next generation where we have to wait yet another year for a full-fledged, absolutely polished baseball title.
