Who here has used Inside Edge?

Did you use the Inside Edge feature for 2K6 and do you plan on using it again for 2K7?

For me, I didnt really use it that much. It was a waste of money and i would rather pitch where i want to pitch than have it tell me where to pitch. Although i did buy some of the pitcher ones for my batters. I think i'll give it a second go this time.

I did at first, but then decided against it. I always felt cheap for having an idea as to where a pitcher might pitch, but now that I think about it more, every big league hitter has the same information and uses it.

I'll probably use it more often in 2k7.

      hey YP-

i asked SDrotar this but I'll ask you too.....

....do those called pitches ,if executed properly, usually result in success?

my concern is with varitek calling my games (with his assumed high 'call game' rating) it will result in too much success (much like the ease to paint corners in the mvp series)
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

The way I remember it, the system worked differently.

From what I've been reading, it seems that the catcher calls every pitch in 2k7. Not sure if this is true in 2k7, but it definitely was not the case in 2k6. The catcher would only call for pitches if you had purchased Inside Edge on a player.

If you pitched where the catcher told you to pitch using Inside Edge then the chances of success were higher, but not guaranteed. The catcher would call for pitches in situations that were poor for the hitter. So, chances played out that you were more successful by pitching to those spots. But, percentages are percentages and things happen. Also, hitters would adjust and turn a cold zone into a hot one if they knew a certain pitch was coming because you became predictable.

Now, for Payoff Pitches it was a bit different. In certain counts (ie: 0-2, 3-2) you can throw a payoff pitch. You select the spot you want the ball and what pitch to throw. The catcher would set up in that spot.

If you the end result was successful (ie: strikeout) then your ratings for that pitch would go up. I think it would raise one point. I don't remember ever seeing it go up higher than one point after one pitch. So, if you continued to be successful with that pitch in Payoff Pitch mode then you'd have more confidence in it. It also worked in the reverse. No success equals the pitch rating going down. It was like a confidence meter for a pitcher.

With that in mind, I'm guessing that Varitek would call a good game and ask his pitcher to pitch where a hitter is less likely to be successful, but it's all about percentages. And much like in real baseball, 2k has allowed for hitters to adjust (this was the case in 2k6 and I'm sure in previous versions). So, the second, third time around the order, if you continue to follow the same pattern to a hitter, your chances of success will go down.

But, honestly, I'm basing this off last year's game and how the system worked. I don't know if it's changed in 2k7.

          hmmmm....very cool

do those payoff pitch ratings hold from start to start (or appearences if u are a reliever) in your franchise...my guess is no

Re: Who here has used Inside Edge?

for the longest time i didnt know you could choose where the catcher would put his glove for the payoff pitch so i would never use it. although you had to keep in the strikezone which was stupid.

i like the catcher calling a pitch every time. i usually ignore it but i like it.

but yeah i didnt use IE much. especially since i played mainly online.

i wish they would just let you see all players inside edge stats and not have to buy them.

It would help you as much as it could hurt you IMO. You cant just fallow it like a robot. Many times your catcher calls for a pitch that is very dangerous. Or obviously a bad call. It adds a lot of tension though becuase you would get scared as he11 throwing a pitch where he wanted you to sometimes. Like right in Pujols' wheelhouse.

You can shake it off too. So its not like your forced to throw where he wants.

Chitown is right about the catcher setting up using Inside Edge. It wasn't always the best call.

But, to answer your question. No. Only lasts for the one game.
