I'm not sure if this was in last years game, but I was messing around with the buttons and I hit rb 2x and my player switched sides of the plate and was then heckled by Joe and Jon lol. That is one of the coolest things I've seen in a baseball game.

Yeah It was in last year's game. I did it in 2k6. I switched to the right side with Bernie and I blasted Wakefield's knuckleball over the green monster.

If the batter is not a real life switch hitter, that is just ridiculously stupid. How in the hell could they leave something like that in the game from last year?

It's actually intentionally left in there.

Why is that? Well... what stops a hitter from actually batting on a different side of the plate in real life? There was a Brewers pitcher who switched to the left side at the end of the season last year for a game--he got two hits.

Again, of course it's not asked for us to switch sides of the plate. Plus, it's a complete disadvantage as well. So why stop us from doing it? There's nothing wrong with it being in there.

          Just throwing that out there.

Relax. You can switch right back if you do it by accident, what is the big deal? It's not like you are doomed to bat from the wrong side for all eternity if you switch.

Lots of switch hitters bat from the "other" side against Mariano Rivera and knuckleballers. It's good to have the option.

I just did it and the pitcher beaned me on the first pitch.

I would try it if I had a fast right-handed batter. I'll switch him to the left side in a sacrifice bunting situation so he has a better chance to beat out the throw at first base.

You know, that's such a false generalization. I mean that in real life. I'm a switch-hitter, and personally I can get to first base much faster drag-bunting from the right side than the left. From the right side, I'm already facing first base, so there's no turning needed. Plus, I bring my right foot back to push it forward and accelerate as I bunt.

I mean, maybe that's just me, but I don't quite agree that just because you're closer on the left side it means that you get there faster.

I did it accidentally with Jim Edmonds and it took me a couple of pitches to figure out what I did and how to get him back. Meanwhile Joe Morgan was ragging on Edmonds about how dumb it was for him to be switching sides of the plate, LOL.

I haven't seen any studies or tests on the subject, but I personally haven't seen anyone do it better than Ichiro, and there are righties in the league just as fast.

Ichiro is sometimes halfway out of the batter's box and beginning his move toward first base as he's swinging. I wouldn't recommend teaching that to kids though since it takes amazing bat control to be able to do it.

I did this with Soriano. I was actually goofing around smashing buttons in combination to see what would, and I was thinking, "Oh boy, here's a huge glitch." It took a few attempts to find what ever smash to get him back on the right side of the plate. Neat to see what he would look like as a southpaw.
