Only for those who played "The Show" last year

Last year I loved "The Show". I felt it was a great game, better than any baseball game I'd played to date.

But, based on a great marketing plan by the 2K folks and a weak plan by the SCEA folks, I became interested in 2K.

The impressions have been good and some even great so I decided to get 2K now for my PS3 and forego "The Show" on PS2 and just play 2K until "The Show" hits for PS3.

Problem is, I hate the game so far. I must say up front it is very early and I may likely love the game after a bit. However, I find myself thinking that I'd rather be playing "The Show" on the PS2.

So my question is: What is the impression of 2K from the viewpoint of a "The Show" fan?

Re: Only for those who played "The Show" last year

As a longgggg time MVP 2005 player (until Novmber 2006), and someone who has played The Show 2006 ONLY since late November till now (no season play...doing total updates, re-doing all attributes, reworking formulas, etc)....I'll say this: you must have read MY mind. I just posted my dislike of this game for PS2. It stinks! Period.

Read my posting (lol)....before I go to bed tonight, I'll play an exhibition game with any two of the 30 teams that I have totally updated. on my PS2!!!

I'm enjoying the game alot more then the Show and I loved The Show. 2k7 has even more great animations then The Show and that's saying something because The Show had amazing animations. The pitching/batting has alot more depth to it and the batting feels more responsive in 2k7. Baserunning is much improved...but the fielding is worse (not by much though). And of course 2k7 blows the Show out of the water graphically.

That's what I'm talking about. thanks for the quick replies.

I hope more people weigh in as well.

Havok, it's encouraging for me to hear you are enjoying the game even more than "The Show". i have to get used to it first and log a few good hours to really test it out.

Rod (love the homage to one of the greatest hitters of all time. big respect for that man). When you said you hated "this" game on PS2, you were referring to 2K right?

Havoc, what system are you playing 2K7 on?

Xbox360. I know comparing games between last gen and next gen isn't really all that accurate but The Show last year completely maxed out the PS2's power and i'm guessing 2k7 hasn't maxed out the 360's power yet.

Re: Only for those who played "The Show" last year

I had the Show on PSP, and I really liked it. So far, I liked MLB's fielding much more, and the career mode was better as well. I really liked "The Show" aspect. On the other hand, My rookie was batting over .400 until he got called up, and in limited action with the Tribe, he batted 370-something, and that was on the hardest level. Too many strikeouts, too many hotshots right back up the middle, too many fouls straight back. I've read that this years version has better hit variety, but a glitchy hitting to feilding transition.

So far 2K7 isn't perfect (hate the colors and feiolding cam...badly) but the pitching is freakin awesome. I've thrown 6-7 balls in a row, even trying my hardest to spot corners. I love that. I've never done that in a baseball game before....

Re: Only for those who played "The Show" last year

                    Quick comparisons:

Graphics: Not fair. Not gonna bother, but to give credit where credit is due, 2k7 player models look fantastic and last year's Show had some of the sweetest current gen animations ever...except for hitting. Alligator arm swings looked bad.

Pitching: 2K7 by a mile, but The Show without the meter did a great job of differentiating between the good and bad pitchers.

Hitting: Both better than average, but both lacking in delivery. Like mentioned, the alligator arms in The Show not only looked bad, but also changed the timing on the swing dramatically. 2K7 needs a slight change in their Swing Stick. Instead of pulling back and letting go to swing, it should be pulling back and pushing up (ala MVP NCAA). Feels very unnatural just to let go of the stick to swing.

Fielding: Still a bit of a mess in 2K7 but greatly alleviated by the Auto Assist that exists. The Show is much better here, but the occassional misses by outfielders on line drives and such were a nuisance.

Baserunning: 2K7's much improved and alot easier. The Show frustrated me so much that I had it on Auto. Both still way behind the MVP engine here.

Extras: The Show's Modes were much better and not glitched, like 2k7's, so it's no contest.

In the end, as much as I enjoyed The Show last year (it saved baseball for me after 2k6), I think that this game is far from horrible. It plays much better and is spectacular on the mound. I think you're being a little harsh on it, or need more time with it...along with some slider tweaks that I have in the Sliders section:wink:

I think 2K7 is a great improvement over '06. No doubt.

I still like The Show better.....and it looks now as though I'll have to play my games rather than manage only!

Havok...you really find the batting in 2K MORE responsive? I find it terribly laggy, to the point where I don't even get a swing sometimes.
                      Also...not fair on the graphics...you're comparing a PS2 game to a 360...come back in April....at least then it's a fair fight!

And yes, when I mentioned hating this game on PS2, I am definitely talking about 2K7

you know, another guy on one of the threads said to AVOID 2K7 if you plan on playing it on PS2...for all the reaons that'll make you shake your head. I regret not seeing his posting/thread amongst my going back and forth and back between 2K7's board and SCEA's board.

you guys are great for jumping on board so quickly.

sroz, I was certainly too quick with judging 2K, but in my defense, i did say it was a very early feeling and recognized i needed more time with it.

since the 1st 2 replies I have really focused and am starting to get the feel. I was actually pitching wrong. Found that out when a pop gave me a tutorial on pitching. It explained why every single pitch I was throwing ended up being a "meat" pitch or a "wild' pitch.

I guess I need to read more.

I like them both. Last year's The Show was a spectacular game, really loved playing it.

I bought a 360 awhile back and so far MLB has been what I was hoping for. Maybe it's such a change that's it's new and fresh to me (just like NHL 07 is for me instead of NHL 2k7 is this year), but it's really fun and the more I play, the more I enjoy it.

I wasn't impressed with the fielding at first, but now it's really become quite enjoyable. Too bad franchise mode stinks as it did with The Show last year... I guess I'll have to get ootp 2007 to for that part of my baseball fix!

As a big fan of the Show I'm doing what you're doing - getting the PS3 show as soon as it comes out.

2K7 is giving me my next-gen graphics fix, which was what I wanted, but managing so many boneheaded mistakes. The endless lag, the loading screens, the fact I can't do a franchise because their updated rosters have all the salaries divided by 10, the continuing lineup and trading idiocy in franchise mode, so many very simple things that with the Show didn't seem like big deals. It's really sad because if the developers had spent a few minutes working on those simple bugs this game would be a major competitor with the show. As it stands I'll just buy the Show for PS3 - it might not have the presentation of 2K7, but I'd rather have no loading screens, and a realistic franchise mode.
