Do you let the catcher call the game?

I do because I think it adds to the atmosphere of the game and to the realism in a small but novel way.

I wonder if the catcher has better insight into what various players tendencies are that you haven't purchased the IE for prior to the game.

Does the catcher call the game based on the same logic as the AI pitchers pitch to you?

Does the catcher intentionally make bad decisions regarding pitching around someone so you are forced to change the call?

If you call your own game are you more likely to get hammered?

I tend to think that the AI controls the catcher in the same way it controls how the opposing AI pitcher would pitch to you but I'm not entirely certain. I don't see any real difference when I change the called pitch and location.

Yeah, I use Boston, so Varitek is awesome at calling games. It also makes me feel more like I'm the pitcher for some reason. I love how you can change the location of where the pitch is called for with the R stick.

I've been letting the catcher call the game so far. They seem to base their calls on the Inside Edge information even if you haven't gotten it for a hitter. I'm guessing that the higher the skill of the catcher the better he calls it based on the IE info.

I definitely like letting the catcher call the game. I think it adds a nice touch of realism to pitching. I play as the White Sox and I think AJ does a great job.

If I want a chance to win I better let Posada call my pitches. Of course I haven't won a game yet so maybe ...... HELP ME PEOPLE. I HAVEN'T WON A GAME YET!!!

Nah, I watched the new interview with Brinkman over at Gamespot and he said the catcher has nothing to do with it, its all based on the pitcher and the inside edge stats of the batter.

For the most part of the game i will let the catcher call the game. I will shake him off sometimes against the clutch hitters because some of the pitches look too close to plate for them to crush it.

Can you let the catcher call the game when you are pitching from behind the batter?

Re: Do you let the catcher call the game?

Just an observation: I played a couple games without letting the catcher call the game and pitching was much easier. I threw three straight shutouts. Switched back to letting him call it and I allowed double-digit runs in two straight games.

Not saying this is good or bad; it might even be a coincidence.

I plan to keep letting him call it.

I let the catcher call the game pretty much. Molina usually doesn't lead me astray. I'd love it if they would suggest something else if you nod them off.

If this is true then why would there be a "Call Game" rating for catchers?

When I have IE on a batter the catcher definitely calls pitches to stay away from the hitter's red areas. I think what you're talking about is the success of the pitches, not how they're called.

Maybe you misunderstood the statement or I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but the catchers call the game based on their ability to call a game. There is a rating for it.

The ability to call a game must be based on something intelligent for it to matter. I'm going to assume it's based on IE information, but that's just an assumption.

I have noticed that in late-game situations the catcher will call for pitches against a certain batter in payoff pitch mode. I'm talking about the entire at-bat. I still haven't figured out why this happens, but I'm assuming it has to do with building a scouting report as the game goes on.

I've only noticed it with the better hitters. I don't know if it has to do with throwing a certain amount of pitches at a hitter or if the game is simulating the possibility that the catcher dug up a report on the hitter to make sure you get him out in the 8th inning.

                              Anyone else notice this?
