Giving up 3 runs means you do not deserve a save. That situation would not prove there is a glitch.

Here is an example for ya.

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/1969_NLCS

"The Mets finished the scoring with 2 in the 7th as Tug McGraw pitched 3 shutout innings (but did not get a save) to close the 11-6 win. "

You guys fail to realize that regardless of the rule, this situation rarely ocurs in real games and it's even more rare that the save is actually awarded, so I don't see it as that big of a deal unless someone can confirm that a save has been awarded under these conditions in the game, in which cas it's not even an issue.

I agree it's not an everyday occurence, but it certainly does happen at the MLB level and I have seen games where a middle reliever is given a save for pitching the last 3 innings of a victory.

Just to correct one point though, most of the time when this does occur, the pitcher is granted a save at the MLB level.

In any case, while this isn't a game breaking problem, it should be corrected (actually it shouldn't have had this problem to begin with no matter how minor).

Who the hell cares, no one pitches 3 innings for a save these days anyway.

Some people actually want their statistics to be recorded correctly. Imagine that.

Actually, per MLB rules if a pitcher enters the game with a lead and pitches at least three innings, and is the final pitcher of the game, he is credited with the save as long as he does not surrender the lead.

You'd be surprised at how many times it happens across MLB during a year. Obviously not as common as the 1 inning save, but it does happen.

Not to mention that it's a simple rule. Why wouldn't someone want the rules of baseball to be accurately portrayed in a baseball game?

If the closer comes in with a 4 run lead, two on and none out in the ninth, it doesn't count as a save either.

And before anyone else says anything, yes, this should be counted as a save.

If a pitcher comes in and pitches the last 3 innings, regardless of how many run his team is up by, he gets a save.

People can debate it all they want, it's a rule. You're only going to make youself look like an a-hole.

As long as he pitches efficiently.
