    Wind effecting the ball?

Does the wind actualy make any kind of diffference in the game? I have looked all over for something that tells you the wind speed and direction during a game, and i cant find it. Am i missing something?

I know that the wind moves the ball around on fly balls, which is why the ball indicator will slide to one side or the other.

The way I tell what direction it's blowing in is by taking a look at the flags in the stadium. I don't think there's an actual indicator on screen for it, though.

That is actualy pretty cool if you can use the flags as an indicator!

On the scoreboard at Comerica (Tigers), there is a wind speed thing I believe. I noticed it doing a quiz but forgot to go back and look to see if that is what it was. I suppose that could have been pitch speed too but not sure why they would really need either on there.

          Re: Wind effecting the ball?

If anybody here is a hardcore fan for a team and knows wind directions in your stadium, could you confirm that they got that down correctly? I mean, I know that they spent time at stadiums just by looking at sun positions and orientations (Detroit's sun is in a different spot from Boston's sun position, etc.). Because I know that, for instance, AT&T Park normally plays a wind blowing in from right field, making it very hard to hit it out of that area of the park. That's one reason it's such a pitcher's park. In 2K6, the wind always blew out to right field, and twas a pitcher's park no more.

          Can anyone possibly confirm this?

            Re: Wind effecting the ball?

We actually discussed the wind direction at Wrigley Field in my Climatology class the other day. For sure 2K could program Sea and Land Breezes into the game. Ballparks near coastal locations should have Sea breezes during the day and Land breezes during the night most of the time. Sea breezes are also stronger than land breezes, so the wind should be stronger during day games.

I know at Wrigley the wind tends to blow in during day games and gently out at night.

Wikipedia has a section about the "unusual wind patterns" at Wrigley I just found. It would be nice if the wind blew in during April and May day games to knock down home runs.

I can't answer your question in detail but I can tell you this-I just got done playing a game at The Giants Stadium . I set the wind to windy, had it cloudy, perfect Bay area effects. It even looked a little foggy, just slightly though. That wind was jacking the A's good. The Giants even got a run off of me because of windy conditions. What happened next could go into the "little things" thread. Swisher was the one who pooched the play. After S.F. scored he shrugged his shoulders to the other fielders like- "hey, S### happens",and kinda turned and brushed it off when it looked like someone gave him a smart crack. Anyway-that is one heck of a park to play in the wind. That wind blowing is the 10th man on the field!

I had one shoulda been Home Run by Dunn at Wrigley, the indication arrow was that it was gone, out of the park, but all of the sudden, the ball marker started creeping in, and it got blew back into play. I was ticked off, but I had to laugh at it. I can hit HR's out to right field a little easier at Wrigley. Griffey had a horrible series there, as I couldn't get much going... but I finally hit one in the last inning w/ him, and it cleared by a good 20-25'.

So in short, yes, I think the wind effects the ball.

The only indication I have had of wind speed/direction is the PA announcer right after the first pitch gives you the time of the first pitch, wind speed, direction and temperature.

At 27F he said "Freezing Cold"

I haven't checked it, but in theory could you use the player's uniforms to judge wind direction?

The wind at Fenway can really go any direction.
