so in baseball, do you have to create any players/prospects you need and save them to a roster before you start up a franchise? I read that you can edit players during the season, so thats good news. I suppose I have to assign all the free agents to the correct teams before i start? any other things i'm forgetting or dont know about in this years version? oh and I'm using the redsox if any others are and theres any tips specific to them..thanks..

things you need to know before starting a franchise?
what are some of the things I need to know before starting a gm franchise? I'm picking this up later today and I know 2k games always have some quirks you'll want to know beforehand, but i always forget a couple. for example, in college hoops you have to save coach settings before starting a franchise or you have to reset them each and every game.

Re: things you need to know before starting a franchise?
There's a roster to download that updates all the players up to 2-16. However, if you haven't heard, everyone's salary is off by 1 decimal place with the update. In other words, if a player makes $15 mil in real life, he makes $1.5 mil in the update. So if you're going to do multiple seasons and that stuff is important, you might want to update the rosters yourself. Players that haven't played in the majors yet don't have their real names, and need to be edited. For the Red Sox, that includes Dice-K. Other notables are Philip Hughes, Kei Igawa, Homer Bailey and of course, Barry Bonds. Other than Bonds, the players are in the game under a fake name, which have the same initials. (ex: Matsuzaka is listed under Dennis Miles).
If you like to edit sliders, do it in the main screen, BEFORE you start the gm/franchise, because if you don't, it has been causing problems to a lot of people by resetting every time you start up your console (maybe this is just a 360 problem, not sure). That's all I can think of that needs major addressing. Hope that helped -

Re: things you need to know before starting a franchise?
can you change the options they give you at the begining of the franchise after you have started it? Im already pretty deep in, and im worried about that AAA roster bug, which i would have to fix by turning the trade overide back on. Id check myself but im at workComment

Re: things you need to know before starting a franchise?
I just hope someone who has already enjoyed and played the game alot would sit down and take everything on these forums (custom rosters, custom sliders, tricks, tips for franchise) and make it into 1 thread for everyone starting a new franchise to know all this and make the franchise mode as playable and real as possible before they send the official update (if they do...)Comment

Re: things you need to know before starting a franchise?
wow thanks guys, i have been reading as much as possible on here this week while pretending to work (haha) but didnt realize it had this much messed up with it. thanks for the info.
im constantly meddling with sliders during a franchise, as your skills get better you want to make it harder to win, more realistic, etc - especially with a loaded team like boston - so that bug sounds especially troubling.
also a major bummer about dice-k's name not being announced even if you change it...oh well...time to usher in the Miles era i guess...Comment
