Do you let the catcher make the call?

Letting the catcher call pitches for you is a nice feature, in both 2K7 and The Show. But I think 50% of the fun in playing baseball videogames is to make pitching decisions ourselves. Deceiving hitters is an art form, and a challenge we all look forward to facing. Therefore I shake off my catcher most of the time. What about you?

I think the fun thing is trying to hit my spots.

If the catcher wants it inside, I'm going to try to get it inside. If I miss then it'll end up in the stands and damn, did I miss once against Gomes of Tampa Bay. He took a bad cutter deep against Santana.

But, it's all preference. I love that the option is there. You can do what you please.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

This is something that I've thought about. On one hand, it's adds a nice dimension to the game that extends to roster management as well. On the other hand, it takes away a pretty big dimension, mainly, calling your own game. I know you can shake off and throw whatever you want, but it's not quite the same. So I don't know how I feel about it.

edit- BTW, is anyone else like me in that, everytime I shake off the catcher, I think of Nuke Laloosh? "Shake him off, throw what you want", lol!

Well you could always turn it off in the options. As for me, I keep it on. For the most part, I like the way my catcher calls the game. When I miss a spot he called, it usually results in a hit or homer. Feels realistic and rewarding when you listen to your catcher and get a K. Only time I shake him off is when I feel I can pick a better pitch than the one he called. Then when it gets rocked, I feel stupid like "I knew I should of listened to him".

I always throw the pitch he calls but I sometimes move his glove from his original target.

probably a bit OT but when i play online, i always get people who dont even dare to throw a strike...90% of the pitches are out of the zone..it really takes the fun out of playing. especially with these 9 inning games, it takes forever to finish a game. just my opinion, but thsoe types of players are very annoying

I listen to my catcher until he tells me to throw an inside changeup or a cutter up in the zone.

Learn not to swing at balls. You gotta make a person throw strikes. Its actually easy to recognize a persons pitching tendencies online or in a H2H matchup. Some ppl fail to mix things up. If I play you online and you keep swinging at balls, guess what? I'm gonna keep throwing balls.
