catcher calling the game, balls strikes?

i've started a few games ago letting the catcher call the game for me because its to easy to throw strikes all the time, i really like this method although sometimes he calls a for a few to many out of the zone, like the last game my pitch had thrown 40 balls and 40 strikes or there about, my 1st game using this method Livan Hernandez threw 64 strikes and 44 balls after 8 2/3 innings, so i thought this is great but my last couple have been more like the 40 ball 40 strike thing, so was the Hernandez game the exception or can i expect more games like this, has anyone who has tried this for an extended time know for sure, thanks.

I have been doing this since I got the game. It makes your catcher's ratings matter (I can tell the difference between McCann catching and Pena, the backup) and it makes you use your entire pitching arsenal. It works out great. Some games my pitcher will throw 60% strikes, others he will be around 50%. I had a game where Hudson had thrown 95 pitches through 5 innings, and the next game Chuck James is in the 50's after 5.

It depends on the pitcher as well I noticed. If your pitcher has good stuff, the catcher will often request strikes. If your pitcher sucks at his accuracy, he'll call for more balls. At one point with my reliever, my catcher asked for about 8 balls straight.

Using the Phillies I have allowed my catcher to make about 50% of the calls. I shake off a lot of what they call (Barajas, Ruiz, and Coste) because there "Call Game" ratings are average to very low.

My pitch counts vary depending on how aggressive I am. I am mostly only playing games where Brett Myers pitches. I'm in June, Myers is 7-1 w/ a 1.70 ERA (which is a baffling 2nd in the NL behind a Pirates pitcher named Capps) and 45 K's. The one loss was a SIM. I have thrown 4 shutouts with him, and the opposing team has only scored 4 or more runs in one game. His first two starts were shutouts, and I'll admit the sliders were still being toyed with. The last couple games I have pitched with him have been awesome. The last was a pitchers duel w/ Ben Sheets which ended in a No Decision for Myers. I actually ended up winning that one in the bottom of the 10th 8-7.

In my franchise I actually traded Lieber for B.Molina just to get a catcher with a decent call game rating. Well the boost to profit margin didn't hurt either. It helps that he's better than any of the catchers on the Phillies roster right now

ok, well it sounds like you guys are getting about the same pitch counts as me, i'll stck with it cause like i said its to easy to throw strikes all the time otherwise and this way your forced to go to your pen on a more regular basis, also depending on where you have cpu batters "take strike & ball slider" they do swing at quite a few out of the zone.

ps: yup if i do a draft i'll be looking for a catcher who can catch and not just one who can hit, lol.

This is one of my favorite features in a baseball game. I'm playing the Mets in GM, and had Lo Duca and Castro. Loduca calls a pretty good game...I will never have my backup call the game with Perez pitching. Castro has like a C-. Whenever I just listened to him (Pedro Pitching) I got bombed. I signed Sandy Alomar Jr. and called him up and put Castro in the minors. Sandy has a B or B- and seems to call a much better game then castro. This feature appears to work well, and I love it.

I've used the catcher's calls in all 12 games I've played so far.

The percentage is mixed. I've seen that the better pitchers throw a higher percentage, but the worse ones will be closer to at or below 50%.

I like it because similar to what Graphik said, I'll get a catcher that calls for 8 straight balls or something. I just chalk it up to my guy losing focus or just being plan bad.

And I've tested it a lot because I like to use bad pitchers in exhibition to test my sliders.

what about the catchers, have you noticed any difference in balls and strikes when using a catcher that is rated an A vs one that is a C or D for "call game" or whatever they call it.

Haven't paid much attention to grades since about my third game.

Does anyone with the original Xbox have the ability to use the catcher?

                          I can't find it

I have only played exhibition games but I have found better pitching success when I go with the catchers suggestions. Sometimes I will go with the location the catcher suggests but a different pitch. I seemed to get rocked when I was picking my own pitches and locations.

Does the catcher tell you where to locate the pitch? I know they tell you what pitch to throw. This is for PS3 version BTW.
