    When to steal?

What are good situations to attempt a steal? I never know when a good time to steal is. Like I would have Preston Wilson or David Eckstein on 1st with Pujols at bat with 1 or 2 outs, is it smart to try and steal with 1 out, 2, or let Pujols bat. I never know when to steal.

I only steal with a good, fast guy on base. Usually the best base runner imho.

With Pujols to bat, I doubt most managers would attempt to steal since you are pretty much in scoring position on first with pujols. Saying that, I think 2 outs is more likely then 1. With 2 outs managers like to get the runner into scoring position and if they get caught you still have pujols up to lead an inning.

Stealing is a disappearing part of real life baseball because, with all the objective number-crunching that takes place now, the risks usually outweigh the rewards.

That said, stick with the basics. Is it a very fast runner? Is the batter somebody who needs that help in getting him home (i.e., more of a light, singles hitter), or is it somebody who, if the runner is successful, the defense will then just pitch around?

You don't want to create an obvious incentive to pitch around somebody like Pujols.

With a decent runner on first I'll go on a 1-0 (straight steal) or 2-0 (hit & run) count. I don't usually go on first pitch or 0-1 count (pitchout risk). Hit the L-trigger twice for lead, watch the pitcher's knee closest to plate. When he commits to the pitch hit the left trigger again and then cue the "head-first-right" slide (upper-right on right stick). Practice.

I don't believe in stealing. It is wrong. Now do I steal in this game? Yes, but I agree with the one who said that stealing in baseball is not happening that much anymore.
