Step Influence Slider - what does it mean?

I've read the description and it seems that the higher the slider setting, the more timing is involved when batting. In other words, it sounds like if you don't have perfect timing, then regardless of what you do, you're not going to smash a pitch. Likewise, if the rating is at 0, just by holding up, you could jack one out easy.

Anyone have any further details about this?

I've tried it at 0 and seem to jack 6-7 homers/ game. I tried it at 100 and homers, while still abundant, seem minimized. However, I also tweaked batting contact with them and so I had too many variables in my experiment. Anyone else wanna try this?
