Why can't I get a piece of the ball!

I've played 5 games and noticed that swinging at any ball is a miss. Can you not make any contact with pitches that are not strikes?

I seriously have not made contact with one ball slightly off the plate. If that's the case, be prepared for a ridiculous amount of strikeouts.

Please tell me I'm wrong on this. I really think this game is great but cannot play it if I can only miss balls instead of make weak contact.

It depends a lot on the player. Some players have bigger contact zones than other players and are able to hit things farther out of the zone. If a pitch is too far out of the zone though it is considered unhittable and even a perfectly timed swing will miss.

I've found it to work very well actually. Sometimes I'm surprised a player was able to reach a ball I hit, and sometimes I'm surprised I missed a ball near the strikezone, but usually it's related to the player at the plate or my timing.

You just gotta work on your plate discipline a bit. This game takes a lot of concentration and focus while at the bat to be the most effective. Don't be afraid to take stuff; make the pitcher work! ;-)

Is that a statement or a question?

Perhaps your bat isn't big enough?

Try upping the contact slider. If you start getting to many HRs, then drop down the power slider.

I was going to post the same thing about the CONTACT slider. You will be able to hit stuff out of the zone but not everything of course. I have been playing with the contact slider at 75. I still strike out but not nearly as often. Like EXboxur said, you may need to drop the power sliders if you start hitting too many homers. The nice thing about conatct being up is you will also see a bigger variety of hits, both fouls and balls put into play. You may think that you'll put on a hitting clinic with contact so high but it does'nt actuall generate more hits, just more "contact". You'll see more pop up, fly outs, ground outs, etc...... Trust me on this, you'll be more competitive against the CPU but it's not an unfair advantage for you. I still strike out anwhere from 4 to 10 times a game, not 18 before raising this slider.

I like the fact that if I DO swing at a bad ball it usually winds up poorly hit.

Are you using the swing stick and trying to take pitches opposite field etc by moving the stick in the appropriate direction? That may or may not help. But it does say in the swing stick instructions that for better results, to move the stick and try and go with the pitch when appropriate.

Thanks, I will try this. Its not about discipline. I walk quite a bit and layoff alot of pitches. I was experimenting to see if I could reach a pitch off the plate. There will be times when I'm fooled enough to swing at a borderline strike and would rather see weak hits than swing and misses.

Also, should I do the same for the CPU? raise contact to 75?

And yes, I'm seeing too many HR's already with power at 25! and contact at 50.

Setting the CPU to 75 on contact will more than likely cut into your ability to strikeout the CPU batters as they will be able to hit stuff that you throw just off the plate. Try out nng's (I think that's the first part of his name) sliders or some others out there with the contact set high.
