Re: zone hitting
Re: zone hitting
It's not fine. It's banal. It's game programming at its worst. At the very least, players need Bat Control ratings. Ridiculous that every single player in the game hits it to left field everytime you point to left, right field whenever you point to right, etc. It's the same nonsense as being able to switch hit with every batter.
Don't expect to see Zone hitting back, BTW. That's gone for good. Seems the intention with this series the last three years has been to simplify the hitting and pitching interfaces, in order to make the game more appealing to consumers. -

Very true about the hitting directions. I have seen a bunch of my lightest hitters bomb opposite field HRs.It's not fine. It's banal. It's game programming at its worst. Re: zone hitting
I don't know about you guys, but all I do is dial my power down quite a bit. Every time I hit a homerun with Adam Kennedy (when trying to hit a sac fly), I keep the power going down. That has seemed to help me stop hitting homers like crazy.Comment

Re: zone hitting
That works. But nothing fixes the ability to pick and choose where you want to hit it: left, right, up, down... It shouldn't be that simplistic - point where you want the ball to go, and it goes there very time. That's goofy.Comment

Re: zone hitting
Yep I agree and the more I play, the more flaws I see with this game unfortunately.. Arm strength, accuracy, HRs, directing hits at will.. It has become frustrating. At first I thought, oh no problem, most of the sliders should fix this, but they dont.
I am not saying the game is unplayable by any means, but after playing so many games now and seeing the same thing over and over again (off the wall doubles with Manny, consistently hitting HRs with Papi pretty much at will, throwing a 2 hopper to homeplate right on the money everytime, guys making diving plays in the infield and throwing lasers off their knees or back foot, hitting down the RF or LF line anytime I move the left stick, etc.) Its just frustrating because it seems the game has so much potential. I do have my share of fun games but the hitting and throwing/fielding is too arcadey for me.
I guess in 2 more years we will have a "perfect" game hopefully.Comment

Re: zone hitting
That's exactly what I'm seeing. The game is fundamentally flawed. Some of it can be tweaked to a degree with sliders and ratings edits - although some sliders and ratings actually don't work, period, and make little or no difference. But the biggest flaw in the game by far is the poorly programmed and mind-numbingly simplistic hitting in this game. And there are no sliders that can fix that problem. Unlike you though, I dont see the hitting getting any better in two years. Seems Kush is sold on this timing/point up for HR's-style of swinging. I don't see them changing that.Yep I agree and the more I play, the more flaws I see with this game unfortunately.. Arm strength, accuracy, HRs, directing hits at will.. It has become frustrating. Re: zone hitting
I agree i don't use the L stick and i get a good variety of hits. I dropped the power down and i hit homeruns at a normal rate. Using the L stick up becomes a homerun fest. Using the L stick left or right dam even major league player cant do that on a consistent bases. Yes they try to go the opposite way or pull the ball. Once they have it right in this game i will not use the L stick to influence the hit directionComment

Re: zone hitting
I agree with that to an extent. If a person can get into 2K7's one-dimensional hitting interface, and without using the L stick, it can be... er, perfectly one-dimensional. Which is why every great video baseball game in the past has included a zone hitting option.Last edited by baa7; 03-27-2007, 03:56 AM.Comment

Re: zone hitting
it is absolutely a joke that zone hitting is not an option in this game.
i like the game but i can already tell that i'll be done with it in a couple months. like you said, fundamentally flawed (not just hitting). for all those that think the hitting is fine in this game, go play 'the show' and then post your thoughts.Comment

Re: zone hitting
Another $0.02 to this thread...
Agree completely that the inclusion of zone hitting would have made what I think is a decent game (of course, after the 2k6 debacle, most anything would be an improvement...) so much better. I know thru playing multiple seasons within the NCAA baseball game, it actually feels like real baseball to push LS in the direction of the pitch, and based on timing and so forth, that decides where the ball goes. Absolutely the BEST!Win without bragging; lose without excuses.Comment

Re: zone hitting
Re: zone hitting
That may be how it works with NCAA. But with 2K7, the problem is you can push, say, left on any pitch - and it doesn't matter if the pitch is up, down, inside or outside - and the ball will go left every time. And doesn't matter if you hit the ball on the end, middle or handle of the bat - the ball goes left, period. That's insane. That's horrible game programming.Comment

Re: zone hitting
Re: zone hitting
That's my problem - I've been spoiled by the incredible zone hitting in The Show. 2K5 had a very good zone hitting system - as good as any I've played. Why in the world they removed that option, along with classic hitting, is truly mind-boggling.it is absolutely a joke that zone hitting is not an option in this game.
