    Re: Calling your own game

I let my catcher call the game 90% of the time, sometimes Martin in LA will get fastball happy with guys like Schmidt, but Ive noticed that he tends to get happy with whatever is that pitchers best pitch, for instance he wants Lowe to throw a ton of sinkers. On a side note, I will follow whatever he says almost all the time, once I actually struke the CPU out with a sinker at the letters, not realistic but it did work. The beauty of doing what he says is it can sometimes simulate your pitcher having a bad day, last game with Wolf, I walked 2 through 3 innings and gave up 5 runs while maxing out every pitch, needless to say he didnt last into the 4th.

I am turning catcher calling off. I lost 2-0 to the Cardinals last night on two solo homers from Edmonds and Pujols. I put the ball right where the pitcher called for it and threw the pitch the catcher called and both ended up in the seats.

That's not a reasonable excuse. However, your catcher's Call Game attribute may not be the best either. I mean, you can't credit Edmonds and Pujols at all for being potentially the best home run hitters on the Cardinals? Maybe your pitcher isn't the best, you know? I mean, home runs do happen.

Next time you give up a home run when you're calling your own pitches, are you going to consider allowing the catcher to call the game again?

2 reasons I call my own game.
          1. After many years of calling my own pitches,I find this feature distracting.
          2. I like being the boss and calling my own shots. I'll live with my screw-up's and bask in my triumphs.

I think it's a really neat feature. I'll go with what my catcher calls about 90% of the time, just because I trust his judgment. But of course, if he calls something incredibly stupid, I'll override him.

I usually go with what my catcher calls every first pitch because he's gonna mix it up and make sure I keep the hitters honest. Then from there I take over based on what he called for the 1st pitch.

I let the catcher call about 85% of my pitches. I usually only call my own pitches when it's a do-or-die situation.

You should always call your own game..Some calls are good but use discretion....The computer tries to balance things out..If you are getting killed pitching the fastball inside, why would you continue....Change the location and speed. Also know if your catcher has a hight call game attribute..Many dont.............Location and ball speed..I would throw changeups, splitters cutters, and etc...mIX IT UP, UNLESS YOUR PITCHER ONLY HAS a few good pitches, then you need to find another one..Learn what each pitch does.Anyway hope this helps.

I asked one of the former professional baseball catcher on another forum, about how many times the pitcher goes with the catcher's call. He said it was about 95% of the time, with most pitchers.
