The size of the cursor are based on many factors. It's determined by the composure of your pitcher. It's also decided on current situations of the pitcher (Are the bases loaded with one out). It also changes based on who is at bat. It changes based on stamina as well. Zone pitching fully reflects every aspect of pitching control. It's about 100 times more in-depth than Payoff pitching, while also more difficult. It also makes it more difficult to throw pitches with more effort. With Payoff, you hold the button as the ring gets bigger, then press the pitch button again when it decreases in size. With zone, pressing and holding the button shrinks the cursor, and makes it more challenging to match the circles.

Zone pitching forces you to hold the stick to aim your location before the pitch. Zone 2 allows you to place your cursor without having to hold the analog stick before pitch.
