Yeah, that's probably true. And if it is the case, then it would just require some programming to reduce the overall power of the power swing to produce a wider assortment of hits and also reduce the power in the normal swing to resemble more of what I am talking about as far as a contact swing.

Also, personally, I'd like to use the same motion for both, so I'd rather use a trigger or shoulder button to execute the contact swing. This is just my opinion, but I basically feel that if you are swinging a bat, the motion is essentially the same and the controlls should be as well.

Also, this would allow for a better check swing system. Since you are always pulling back and pushing forward, the timing and motion of a check swing would use the same mechanic no matter what swing you were using.

Not sure if anyone played MVP NCAA with the swing stick, but the check swing system was smooth. You were pretty much always able to execute one, but you have to time it correctly to do it successfully. It seemed to respond to the location of the bat through out the course of the actual swing instead of just the analog stick. Overall I felt the mapping in that game was and is still better than the way 2K does it, but now that I've adjusted, it's a moot point.

it should be done like high heat. Perfect timing, contact, swing location equals the long ball. nothing will ever beat that batting system.

Re: Down with the Power Swing

There should be a power swing. It needs to be implemented correctly though. The ONLY way that was ever done right was with cursor hitting. Your cursor shrunk tremendously when swinging for the fences.

Saying that batters dont change there swings for different situations is false.

I am still playing 2k5, but from the sounds of it, the mechanism is the same.

As Trevy suggests, I treat the "Power Swing" as the normal swing, and I adjust my sliders accordingly. 2K's normal swing then becomes my "just put it in play" wuss swing.

I think 2K is just a little backwards in their terminology.

Same idea, but not implemented the same way - in 2K7, you use the swing stick, and there's no power swing when using button hitting. Also, it's not implemented anywhere near as well as in 2K5. 2K5 has a real power swing that's programmed well and that penalizes you if you use it. 2K7's is just a poorly programmed arcade feature that appears to have been created to make the game fun for people who love hitting tons of HR's.

Interesting idea, using the power swing like that.

2K isn't backwards here. They've created a 'power swing', plain and simple, that's intended to be used as the secondary swing. And the idea isn't new to baseball games either. Trev's idea is something different, although as I said I recall FPS baseball 98 had a 'put it into play' swing.

Turning down the power swing slider and not doing King Kong swings works for me. I'm averaging about 1 HR per game if that. I do have games where the computer nor I popped one over the gate.

I just dont like to have a power swing in the game. Hitting in baseball games are more fun without one.

Re: Down with the Power Swing

There is a power swing with classic hitting. You just hold up on the "L" stick and press "A". If you check the VIP, you can see the percentages between uppercut swings and level swings. Holding up and pressing A with button use registers as an "uppercut" swing. That's why a huge majority of people online have 95 percent shown on their uppercut attempts, and do you think they are using the swingstick? Haha, yeah right.

That's not necessarily a power swing, but just an uppercut swing. You can powerfully drill a ball into the ground; there's no determining whether a fly ball that's hit is more powerful than a ground ball that's it.

That's fine against the computer, but it doesn't help the majority of us who are growing very frustrated playing randoms online and giving up homeruns on pitches in the dirt because the other guy just uses the power swing all the time.

Currently the game does not seem to penalize user for using the power swing all the time, and it should.

Trevytrev I totally agree with your idea

I think their system is sound but the execution is a little off. If it's truly meant to be an uppercut swing then there should be a penalty when trying to apply it to higher pitchers. Guys with uppercut swings tend to be better lowball hitters and have a lot of trouble getting the bat on high fastballs just because of the nature of their swing. If you aim up with the current system and get a high fastball over the plate you're going to be able to blast it so long as your timing is as good as on any other pitch.

At least ADD it as an option for next game, or better yet make it a download update. I would like to see instead of pushing the A button, make that your down and up swing on the right stick. Then doing a check swing instead of a contact swing. That would make this game so much better!

What contact and Power Settings do you guys use?

I am in my Franchise and only seem to hit HR's when I use a Power Swing. I never hit a HR when using the pull down and release contact swing.

                              Any help?

WHOA. 1. You sound like you want to get rid of the classic swing option! No way! 2. I don't think having down and then release as a check swing makes any sense whatsoever. Think about how that would work in practice =P
