how does classic swing work?

do you aim the bat through zones? is it like mvp where if you influence the ball to go opposite field or pull or is it like the show where it purely just boosts your attributes when u guess right and where the ball goes is solely based on your timing?

There's no zone hitting in the game, with either swing stick or classic. It's strictly timed hitting, plus using either the L or R stick to influence hit type (point up for fly ball; down for grounder; left to go to left field, etc). Use the L stick to influence hit type when using classic hitting.
