    Hometown Heroes

I made a post in another thread about how to improve the 2k series...i had the idea of hometown hero...its a system that dictates the trade logic...i wont go too far into it...http://forums.operationsports.com/vB...62&postcount=5
you can read it here...but i think a list is in order...every team, the three players on each team who under no circumstances barring something we cant even imagine would not be dealt or not signed to a long term deal....and if a team were to trade them, their franchise would suffer and receive a lot less in return then what the gave up...

    here we go.

    AL EAST
Yankees: Jeter, Wang, Rivera (amazingly the Yankees have a few people who are moveable, or have been rumored to be moved.)
    Red Sox: Papelbon, Ortiz, Dice-K
Blue Jays: Wells, Halladay, Glaus (but finding a third for them was hard)
    Orioles: Markakis, Tejada, Bedard
    Devil Rays: Kazmir, Upton, Crawford

    AL Central
    Indians: Hafner, Sabathia, Sizemore
    Royals (seriously): Grienke, Teahan, Gordon
    Tigers: Bonderman, Granderson, Polanco
    Twins: Mauer, Mourneau, Santana
White Sox (tougher than you think to find 3): Dye, Konerko, Jenks???

    AL West
    Angels: Vlad, F. Rodriguez, Figgins
    Athletics: Swisher, Street, Haren
    Mariners: Ichiro, King Felix, Ibanez???
    Rangers: Young, Texieria, Blaylock???

    NL East
    Braves: A. Jones, McCann, Smoltz
    Marlins: Willis, Ramirez, Cabrera
    Mets: Reyes, Wright, Beltran
    Phillies: Howard, Utley, Hamels
    Nationals: Zimmerman, Patterson, Cordero

    NL Central
    Astros: Oswalt, Berkman, Lee
    Brewers: Fielder, Sheets, Hall??
Cards: Pujols, Rolen, Wainright (Beltran is still standing there...)
    Cubs: Soriano, Lee, Ramirez
    Pirates: Duke??, Sanchez, Bay
    Reds: Dunn, Freel, Harang??

    NL West
    D-Backs: Webb, Hudson, Brynes???
    Dodgers: Furcal, Broxton???, Saito???
    Giants: Cain, Bonds, Zito
    Padres: Peavy, Hoffman, Gonzalez
    Rockies: Cook, Atkins, Holliday

I would replace Dunn with Griffey for the Reds.
Griffey is from Cincy and will end his career here.
While I believe the Reds will trade Dunn one day.

Nah, atleast by listening to local sports talk most Reds fans would like to get rid of Dunn.

I like the idea, but I think some teams may only have 1 or 2 and others may have 4 or 5, but if you need black and white...3 definately works. I think you've done a pretty solid job on the team by team players.

As and A's fan though, I think Chavez would be on the list. The A's have a philosophy that they can throw anyone in the closers roll and will be OK. Also, Chavez is all that is left after losing The Big 3, Giambi, Tejada, Fill in the blank. Harden's probably up there too if he actually pitches close to 200 innings.

As far as exceptions go, I can think of a few situations where a team might give up one of these players
              1) The player is in the last year of their contract and the team won't be able to afford them at the end of the season and that team is out of playoff contention. Realistically, this would be a problem for say the bottom 1/3 in payroll.
              2) The trade involves getting rid of an older talent for some younger talent. (Say the Giants are out of the race in August and the Angels want to give them Weaver and Kendrick for Bonds). While I just pulled this one out of my ***, something similar could happen as every year teams give up potential for solid vets to help them down the stretch.
              3) Player is underperforming. What if Howard is hitting .240 with 21 HR's in the middle of August? Would the Phillies try and ship him?
              4) Player is bringing down team moral (not really viable until a realistic moral sytem is built), but what if Dice K has a era in the high 4's or low 5's in the middle of August?

Again these are exceptions, but maybe some logic could be built in.

Thanks for the props. I understand that some teams have more or less than others but the three idea sits because some teams have like 6 others have one. As far as the circumstances im all for that, except for the Ryan Howard example, they wouldnt deal him because they know what he CAN do, and if thye decided to deal him they know that they wont get much for him, and more than likely the fans would want to execute the GM...

I think what you just did was put into words an idea that myself, and I'm sure other have been thinking for a while. I think it's a great idea. I would make a few corrections to your list tho. I'm pretty sure the Dbacks are going to trade Byrnes...you could put Stephen Drew in his place though. Also, you can take everyone off the Marlin's list because they seem to dump everyone. I like some of the "ammendments" i guess you could call them as well. But an option like, "turn off trade logic" should be included for the people that do enjoy stacking their teams.

Yeah i dont know all the teams dynamics like you would if you ived in that state or region...i just went off of what i see on MLB Extra innings and how the crowd takes to them..im from NY so of course i know all about the Mets and yanks, but some players are interchangeable, i implore you to make whatever corrections are needed.

I thought about that, but after reading Richard Justice from the Houston Chronicle i got the impression that they only brought him back to see him get 300, then they will roll him out afterwards...

I would definatly add Chipper Jones in for the Braves considering he has played his whole career with the Braves and like Smoltz will likely end it there. I recommended something like this for the recruiting system for EA's NCAA baseball games and I still think it would add a whole new depth to any sports game.

I was going to add him but i figured he was on the downside of his career so could see the Braves letting him go if the right circumstances came along...

Definitely agree, I'd put Chipper there instead of Andruw. Chipper will be a Brave for life. The Braves were exploring Andruw trades last year, and plus he's in his contract year so who knows where he'll be next year.

I'd also think that Francoeur and McCann are interchangeable as the third player after Chipper and Smoltz. Braves have a few studs at catcher, though I don't think they would ever let McCann go.
